I had one on my previous boat, 190 Prostar w LT-1, and it caused the engine to constantly overheat at idle. The impellor is too weak at low speeds to pump water IMHO.

Treat the fuel, change the oil, fog the cylinders, moth balls in plastic containers around the boat, battery/s on a maintainer. Should be good to go after that.
