What brand do you have???

I have Reliable and they recommend 50 wt half to three quarters up. I believe UFP says to fill them almost full

After a closer at your picture the two purple wires are connected unless you put new terminals on. Try reversing the wires as suggested and see if you have voltage on the coil in the run position

I believe my 89 Supra Comp TS6M had 3 terminals.

Try the jumper to the coil for short term and see if it stays running. Plenty of places to get 12 volts from.

It should be straight up and down and the ring is a gear lock out system as in your not suppose to be able to put it in forward or reverse without pulling up the ring. A good safety feature for sure!

Could be a bad new switch but like you said it was probably something mis-wired being that it is new.

What does the voltmeter say on the coil in the run position versus the start/crank position of your key ??

Does the voltage drop or disappear when the key is in the run position??

In my picture the black winch cover (on the right side) and then straight down is the main tube which is 4.0...

It's measured at the main tubing from top to bottom on the outside. Don't measure where the tubes/fittings overlap. Just the plain channel. Mine was exactly 4inches
