I would suggest a phantom for first time as they are relatively cheap and you can even attach pool noodles to the landing gear so they can float. My daughter has a standard 3 and it has worked great...

Decided to go with the Hawkeye and thru hull. Going to remove my PP paddle wheel and use that hole for the thru hull. It comes with an Arimar thru hull that is 2 inches so should just drop right in.
