Is your cable connected at the transmission?

gareth012 11-26-2013 06:05 AM

yes the cable is connected and you can see the selector on the gearbox moving iether into foward or reverse but nothing happens at all

Have you tried disconnecting the cable and moving the selector on the gear box by hand. I had a similar problem once where the mechanism on the in the shifter had came loose and wasn't moving the cable in full motion in either direction. Thought it was the trans at first until I disconnect the cable and was able to shift the trams manually. That in turn led me back to the shifter which when removed was easy to see and repair the problem.

I always try to start with the simple stuff first and work my way back from there.

We have taken the cable off and moved the selector , and there is still nothing that happens , is it possible to find a workshop manual for the x80?

Probably not but you should be able to find the manual for the trans. I believe someone had a drop box with quite a few of them on here somewhere. Put up the make and model and someone will be along with either the document or a link to it.

Check the oil level, next stage will be checking for oil pressure

Have you figured it out yet? It could be something really simple... Last weekend right after backing away from the dock in reverse I thought I lost my transmission as I put it in gear to move forward. The linkage was secure, oil level checked out fine....felt the panic want to take hold as we drifted away from the dock. Then I noticed the shaft nut came off and the shaft slipped out beyond where the splines could engage. I had to take a swim and push the prop end back while my girl tightened the nut back on. She passed the "nut handling" test with flying colors. We were on our way in minutes :) I hope your solution was as simple.
