I've never owned a Mastercraft, though I did own an 1986 Malibu Skier w/351 Ford for about 4 years and it was my first ever power boat. That said, I've decided to seek out a 1991-1994 Prostar 190 and I'm in the Southeast.

Very soon I'll be looking at a Teal/White with Red stipe 1992 Prostar 190 I found for sale about 5-6 hours away. Trying to ballpark the value of the boat, before I make the long drive to test drive and make a CASH offer... Thanks in advance folks!

Pros:
Original owner, so full history possible (as long as owner discloses)
Always stored indoors (well almost always, maybe a couple years in a carport)
560 hours on the original 351 Ford v8, running nice
Claims always fresh water run
Nice interior w/just one seam starting to separate
Gel coat/exterior in "excellent" unfaded condition, though rear letter stickers faded/aged
A few skis maybe thrown in on the deal

Cons:
Pretty sure it is the base 240hp version of the 351 and most likely the 1:1 trans
Minor dock scrape in gel coat, owner claims I would only notice if pointed out
Kill switch not working
Single axle trailer has broken/bypassed surge brake unit, but new tires and repacked bearings, could look rough we'll see.
High asking price (more like 91-94 Stars & Stripes money) but is "negotiable"...

Thanks folks in advance!

Nada...

Without out a pic - no more than 8-10K - no tower - no sound system no pictures... I would go 8... especially this time of year.. pics would give us a better idea.

redoing brakes could cost up to $500-600.

How does it compare to this http://www.onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=40193

Just sold the boat you describe a couple months ago. Mine had the HO 285HP and the 1:1 transmission. Mine was very clean with 650 hours on it. Depending on condition I would say very rough numbers would be $8000 to $12,000 range depending on condition. I would say the lower end is more likely given we're at the end of the season and it needs brake work on the trailer. More towards the higher end if it's clean, trailer was good and you were looking at it in the Spring.

Good luck

In 1992, it had the 285 HP motor.

I wonder if it could really be a '91 with the 240hp, or maybe it really is the 285hp.
Owner bought boat new in early '93...

Short of paper work (which the owner should have) how does one tell the 91'-'93 apart?
The '94s being easy I guess with the addition of fuel injection.

Ask for the Hull Identification Number (HIN). It will have the manufacture date code. My '77 was titled as a '79 when I got it.
