Indmar 351 valve cover clearance

I just rebuilt an Indmar 351 with roller rockers and the taller valve covers do not allow installation of the exhaust manifolds. there is not enough clearance between the manifold and cover..

Anyone been up against this? Solutions?

Thanks!

Yep, I went through this as well. Summitracing sells flanges that can be used as spacers. http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...d=351w+exhaust or you can have the manifolds milled at an angle to clear the valve covers.

THanks for the info.. does the milling hurt the integrity of the water jackets?

With the flanges how do you gasket them?

I did the flanges and used percy aluminum gaskets on both sides required longer bolts and don't over torque them.

I appreciate the info..I've been stewing on it since saturday when I reinstalled the motor. I've been wondering if there is a valve cover that will accomadate the rockers and still allow clearance to the manifolds

How thick are the spacers? which ones did you use and how many?

I originally bought these slant edge valve covers to try and add clearance but they still touched I bought the 3/8" round flanges and quickly found out I need rectangle port.

Did you find any difference in the summitt vs patriot or other brands? I thought I was goint to have her running Sunday, after wiring in the new MSD stuff, then this thru a wrench into the gears.

Many Thanks!

I think I used summit brand, didn't really matter as I had to turn the round ports into rectangle ports.

was the 3/8" flanges enough without the different valve covers?

Dunno I replaced the valve covers first, currently probably have 1/4" clearance, they look pretty good on the motor tho.
