This year my family has recently purchased a lake house on 755 acre all-sports lake in Michigan where I keep my trusty PS209. I have noticed several Mastercrafts and other ski/wakeboard boats on the lake. On a typical Saturday morning I see a few hardcore slalom skiers out there free skiing. I used to ski courses in college and on my trips to Cancun and Florida, and I would really like to install my own, even if its just the portable kind. There is a corner of the lake protected from wind that I always like to get my sets in at and would be the perfect area for a course!
Has anyone ever had any experience with approaching a lake association regarding setting up a course? There are a lot of pontooners and wallys out there that do nothing except pull tubes. I would rather know a few things before asking and being shot down right away! Thanks!
I would suggest talking with the hardcore morning slalomers first. There is a good chance that they alreadt try or thought about it and they could help with the assosiation if they have been around the lake for some times.
You are gonna need permits for sure and chances are someone around the lake will be against it .
I always talk about waterskiing being a sport not an activity and the boat being a tool for it like like lifts at snowski station.I think it help peoples understand what you are trying to do.
I did put a course 10 years ago on my lake and it is still there today(Just got back from skiing actually). Now,residents are use to it and don t mind at all(great spot with no houses nearby).
No permits needed here.
Yup. Talk to the skiers first. Just head out in the am to chat.
Not sure if the HOA would have jurisdiction on the lake or not. Mich dnr / deq likely does. They would probably issue the permit.
Having HOA support is likely helpful. At best you will probably need to take down by noon on sat and put back up Mondays. Unless the lake owners don't mind and complain if you leave up all the time.
Check ski it again for used courses.
