Mooring questions

Ok I've owned a boat for 14 years and always moored my boat the same way when we would go camping. I used those stupid blue bunjee's for docking. I guess I got used to them and never upgraded. So now I have a 01 x star and I want to do it right. So what do you guys use for dock line and where is the best placement? I figure tower, transom and bow ring? I don't have the pop up cleats.

As far as anchors I'm thinking of upgrading to the box anchor or hour glass. Does anyone use the anchor buddies with those set ups? I really like the idea of having our boat away from the shore so it doesn't get beat up from the waves.

When I tie up at the beach I use a 30 lb rubber coated navy anchor (like the ones sold with the EZ Slalom course) and a heavy five foot chain to secure the bow. I tie that line to a boat bumper. On the other end of the bumper I have a clip to the bow eye. In the back I run a line from one of the lifting eyes to a stake on the beach. I pull the boat in so that there is about a foot of clearance for the underwater gear. This technique has withstood the worst of storms on Lake Powell and the tiny wind blown lakes in eastern Colorado. The only down side is wading out to unhook the bow eye. But if you have an open bow you just reach over and release.

So for dock line how long should I get and what diameter? What should I use to tie up bumpers to dock?
