2000 X-Star height
Hey guys, i will be building a shop soon that i will store my boat in. I measured the top of the tower from the ground up and it looked like it was about 10'. I am debating weather i want to make the shop door 10' tall and worry about cutting it close when going through the door or spend more money and have a 12' door. Does anyone go through a 10' tall door without any problems? Thanks!

Hi redraider - we have a 10'6" door and our 2000 X-Star just fits. I have to make sure the door is pushed up all the way and not hanging below the door jamb or the rope swivel on the top of the tower will catch the door handle. So I would definitely go with at least 10'6" although if I did it over again I would go with a 12' so I wouldn't have to fuss with it.

Our door is 12' wide as well, which is about the minimum I would go width wise if you have board racks and plan to back it in with boards in them. The launch for us is only a couple of miles away on a back road, so the boards stay in the racks. I designed and built the garage myself back in 2001 just for the boat. I'll try to find a picture and post it up.

Picture of garage door attached. Keep in mind also that you lose a couple of inches on the height when you frame out the door jambs and allow a small overlap at the top of the door so there is no gap. Our door is 10'6", but opening is closer to 10'4".
