Head gaskets for a 1998 Corvette LT1 motor

I will be rebuilding my motor (1998 Corvette 5.7 LT1) and Iíve read the main differences between the marine application and the car application are the head gaskets and brass freeze plugs. I will be using all the original bolt on parts.

I did not see the LT1 head gaskets listed on the skidim.com web site so I emailed them, they emailed right back that they have no specific marine applications for the head gasket on a LT1 and I should use a high quality automotive application like an Edelbrock #7380.

Does this sound correct? Should I contact a Mastercraft dealer or would there part just be an automotive gasket? Could someone recommend a MC good dealer, I do not know of any local dealers.

You can follow my slow progress on my progress thread:

Thanks, Steve

Any LT-1 gasket will work. Fel-pro, Edlebrock, etc. Auto parts store, Jegs, etc.

Fel-Pro 1074 is made with a stainless backing and classified as suitable for marine applications.

Thank you for the replies!!

I searched the Fel-pro number and found this:

Brand:Fel-Pro

Manufacturer's Part Number:Z1074

Notes:Specificly for 1992-97 LT1 and LT4 only. Used in late model Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, Impalla SS, also suitable for marine applications. Pre-flattened copper wire ring.

Thanks again, Steve

Will I require any marine application gaskets when I reassemble the motor. I've asked about the head gaskets, what about the intake and exhaust manifolds. The block looked clean enough that we won't be removing the brass freeze plug. Is there anything else I should keep in mind when ordering parts or reassembling?

Thanks, Steve
