Tower speakers

I have an 05 X45 with a 2009 tower. Boat did not come with tower speakers, so I bought a four cans after seller stated they came off his 09 X45. Turns out they are actually from an 04 X Star. I adapted them to fit my 09 tower without first checking speaker fitment and choices. Looks like the 04 came with 6.5 clarion component speakers. I don't want to go with clarion.

Can I go with a 6.5" JL coaxle and just take off the tweeter pods? What other options do I have in a 6.5" component tower speaker?

Thanks

I know JL makes a component system for in the boat, my XStar has it... Dunno about the fitment tho for the towers. I've seen the cans you're talking about though...may wanna check these out and ask around if they'll fit.

I have seen these before and they are JL, not clarion.....

Unfortunately the 7.7" are too big. The outside of my cans are 7" across and the mounting holes are 6".

I swapped the clarions for wet sounds xs-650s last year. Big improvement but you'll likely need to be willing to drill and tap new mounting holes and notch out a relief for the terminals...at least i had to on my cans. Well worth it imo, but i did just leap into the rev410 category. Might want to consider long term goals. If you know you want music clear and plenty audible at the end of the rope, the 6.5 coaxs arent going to cut it and youll end up spending more time and $$$ down the road as i did. However, if all you want is a clean and loud system in the boat and hanging out on the shore and couldnt care how clear it is at the end of the rope, then you are on the most cost effective track imo.

Did you just get rid of the tweeter pod? Any pics?

Thanks

The aggressive Wetsounds XS650s are a good fit for a tower 6.5" coaxial. It won't be an HLCD but will be the best of the coaxials.
We have plugs to close the factory pods once the tweeters are removed.

Yeah...send me your email addy and i'll send them your way. Basically looks fqctory as i left the original clarion tweeters in place, they just arent wired up. Looks great IMO and i'm real picky when it comes to details.
