Bimini placement

1 Attachment(s)
Hey MC lovers, I got a bimini top for free for my 95 Maristar v-drive. The factory mounts for the bimini are installed on the gunwales right next to the windshield. The top unfortunately is a bit too narrow to fit in the factory mounts, so I am contemplating relocating the mounts to the inside of the windshield.

I've never seen a bimini top be mounted this way, but I can't think of any reason not to have the mounts be on the gunwales inside the windshield. Any thoughts? Thanks... Summer can't get here soon enough!

You won't be able to fold it forward mounted there. If you are going to mount it there I would use a set of solid support poles in the rear so it can stand up folded.

There is not that much difference in width, sure you can't bend the legs to suit? Or maybe shorten the legs slightly and mount off of the windscreen? Depending on the style you may even be able to take it to a pro and just get the legs rolled in a bit more if you are not game.

I looked at the assembly instructions - the bows are each two segments of aluminum tubing joined by an overlap and secured with a couple self-tapping screws. So I'm going to cut three segments of aluminum pipe and wedge those into the bows making the Bimini a couple inches wider so I can use the mounts in the factory locations.

Def am going to use support poles for the rear -got some on eBay for 70 bucks including shipping. They are Taylor-Made and adjustable. Thanks for the input!
