Carpet

The backing on the underside of my carpet is coming apart. I cleaned the carpet today and had lots of the black gritty material come off. Anything I can do to make it last? I thought about spraying the back of the carpet with 3M adhesive spray and letting it dry. Am I crazy?

Thanks

Unfortunately not. The plasticizer is gone in my opinion. The weave backing should hold together unless your starting to lose strands of carpet. The black gritty stuff could be the old adhesive... maybe someone else will chime who has better info than me.

I have the salt water version of your boat and replaced my carpet a couple years ago for the same reason that you mention. I thought the problem was created by the salt water that it lived in for the first year, but it sounds like it's just what happens to that generation of carpet. Not sure how some black Plastidip would work for you-might not hold up to the foot traffic. I paid $250 for the replacement carpet from Corinthian Marine Carpet-they were closing out a grey color so the cost of the carpet was about half of what it would normally cost. The backing on the Corinthian is different and won't disintegrate like the original carpet does.

Yep dry rot...I have an 07 and I will have to replace my carpet this year as well. I lived with the black dust last season but it's time to fork out $312 for replacement carpet.
