99 PS205v Engine rust
2 Attachment(s)
I've had my boat since the spring, and it was and is in great shape for the year, but I recently discovered a little bit of rust just below the engine block manifolds(?), just underneath on each side. I don't have any pics of it, but if you envision the separators on the V drive (see attached photos) are removed, you can then see it from a profile view, just below , which on V drives isn't an easy angle, which is why I missed it in the first place and didn't have the seller fix before buying.
So, I'm guessing the best thing to do is scrape any rust off and paint over it, but my question is, what's the best thing to use for paint? Rustoleum? Any recommendations? |

The best thing that has been working is to soak the rust parts in evaporust..._ I have the same issue. Then paint with engine paint. I will be doing this this spring as soon as it warms up. I will post pictures... you can see the discoloration just below the exhaust manifold side...ignore the blue arrow...

Would a surface application of evaporust be effective? If so I'll definitely give it a try.

Just have to work it....keep on adding...I am going to fabricate some type of trough to hold the liquid. Other users just keep on applying until rust is gone. Duct tape saran wrap and a a couple of tubes should to the trick...

I've attached a picture of it. As you can see, it's not even noticeable if the dividers are on. I am going to order the evaporust today, and will give it a shot next weekend. Then, hopefully I'll get a good day to roll the boat out of the garage and paint. I don't want to try to paint it while it's inside. I'm afraid of what those vapors will do! I've lost enough brain cells from alcohol and hard spills on snowboards/wakeboards already!

good time to riser gaskets, tstat and tstat gasket while your there... those drips just won't do ;)
I have the same rust will be doing mine as march when it warms up... going to do what this guy did.. http://www.evaporust.com/chassis.html - post pics please... :) |
The bottoms of my manifolds usually rust too. I figured it was because that is a hot spot where the exhaust gases hit. I am in the process of a re-power and have repainted mine with VHT high temp paint. Time will tell if it holds up. Any type of rust inhibiter will most likely burn off the bottom of the manifold.
