problem?
 

Anyone have any deterioration on the rudder of the boat? I have an 89 with about 1000 hrs. And it looks like the rudder is pitted.

Do you keep your boat in the water at a marina? If so it could be from stray current/electrolysis. Also could be burn marks from your prop if you have an irregularity on one of the leading edges. Any pics?

I had damage to my rudder from a very slight ding in my prop. Google "rudder cavitation burn" and you can learn about what caused my problem.

Here is a pic of my damage. The worst spot (near the leading edge) was probably 1/8" deep. Eric @ OJ Props made short work out of it and it looks as good as new. Fixing the barely noticeable bent blade made sure the damage didn't come back.

My rudder looks like that but I've got a new prop, do I need to replace/repair the rudder?

Eric can probably fix it for a reasonable price. I would certainly give him a call before replacing it. I would definitely get it fixed though.
