I went back in the early 90's as a team building event.... but, that was back when they were only CO2 powered:( |
I played in a sponsored team back in high school. The 98 custom is bullet proof and perfect for a begginer. They are ideal for people who play every now and again.

Can't beat the 98 custom for beginners!! I even played tourney ball with one when I had troubles with high end markers... Honestly if I was going to buy another one to not play anything other than rec ball with it'd be no doubt that I would buy a 98 custom.. Just make sure it's a real 98 custom as I know wal mar used to sell a knock off one that wasn't as high of quality

98 custom is the gun to have for the occasional rec player.
I play with a group of buddies once a year, some of them have 98 custom's that are 12 years old and never get any maintenance but work fine every year. |
Tippmann A-5 is like a 98 but a bit more customizable if you decide you want to do more.

One of sons got into paintball a few years ago and I'm glad he grew out of it. The Tippman is a good starter gun, but when they start to play every weekend with bigger groups, they will want the newest and fastest guns on the market. My son had the electric auto feed hoppers and triggers that could fire over 10 balls a second. I don't even know what brand of gun he uses (used) but I can ask. Almost as expensive as my MC
