Motor/Tranny exposed, what now?
1 Attachment(s)
I pulled the rear seat back off my 02 X30 so I can get it reskinned in the off season. I went ahead and pulled the middle insert and I was wondering if you guys had any advice on stuff I should do "while I'm in here" as I don't imagine I'll be pulling the seatback off again once I get the skin back on. I was going to do the transmission fluid anyway as part of my yearly maintenance. Any suggestions. Thanks.

If you haven't changed your fuel filter lately now would be a good time.

lubricate moving parts such as tranny shift linkages, clean air filter, clean the fiberglass under the seat...
|
Russlars is right. I change my fuel filter every year. Some might think it's overkill - beats swapping a few beers for a tow and wasting 1/2 a day for a repair.

Good time for some deep cleaning/painting of the engine compartment/bilge.
If you have more than 200hrs on the fuel pump and are going to replace the filter, then you may as well for under $100 just replace the fuel pump while you have the module pulled. Fuel pumps are notorius for only lasting 3-400hrs max on our boats. Trans fluid, yes. Trans filter if that hasn't been done in the last 1-200hrs. Grease as mayo said. Double check all the wiring/connections. Clean any connections to ground. |
I'm glad I don't have to work on that engine lol. I like my DD -- everything right there in plain view with lots of room to work.
Carefully inspect any rubber hoses, and replace as necessary. If they're original they are ten years old now. |
I love the duct tape

Duct tape still unopened in the pic though.

Jafo9 - Forget about re-skinning the seats. Just stretch duct tape over all the storage pods. You can even spice it up with fancy colors for that extra special look. Strad, I hear ya... I just switched from DD and I am not a fan of engine access on the new X2.
