Prostar 205 RPM's - LT1
Hi all,

Just curious what my 1997 Prostar 205 LT1 should top out at for RPM's. It has 1:1 and the standard 3-blade prop, and 320 hours. It does around 4500 RPM's with me and one or two other people on the spotters seat which seems pretty normal. Also idles around 500-700 RPM. Does that sound right?

I don't suspect anything wrong but am just curious if I should make any tune-ups.

Also running in WI, so normal elevation.

What has your maintenance/service schedule been? What has been serviced/replaced recently and what hasn't?

Just happen to be going through this same research at the moment...

Dinged a prop last weekend and sent it off to Eric at OJ Propeller to have it straightened. One of the things he wanted to know was top speed and WOT RPM. Since my engine was turning 5200 RPM with that prop he is going to add some cup to bring the RPM back down to 5000.

By the way my operator's manual for the LT-1 says 4200-5000 RPM is the recommended max.

I just bought the boat and I believe all it has had is oil changes/tranny fluid and impeller changes. It had 290 hours when I bought it in May and now it has about 325 Hours. The guy I bought it from was the original owner since 1997 and did not seem as meticulous as the rest of us, which is why I'm thinking it's all original still.

What kind of upgrades should I make?

Not that any of this will solve the problem, but plugs, wires, clean the flame arrestor for a good start.

Do LT1's ever need timing adjustments like the TBI engines, or not because of the higher tech ignition system?
