Another X-Star prop?

Sorry for another prop thread but I have not found anything regarding high altitude. I have a 2007 X-star with the MCX engine. When running 2,500 lbs ballast with 5-6 people I have a really tough time getting on a plane. Any suggestions?

What prop are you using at what altitude???

typically at 3,000 feet. It is the stock 2007 prop so I am not sure. I will look this evening and post it.

Go directly to the man that knows, Eric Johnson @ http://www.ojprops.com/contact_us or contact him by pm, EJ OJPROP, http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/member.php?u=1537
Be prepared to give him any info he may need like, altitude you use the boat at, current prop info off the hub, baseline numbers of the speeds and RPM's for the current prop, boat model and year, engine size, transmission ratio, function (skiing, barefooting, surfing, boarding, tubing, etc.), ballast use, fuel load, gear, nominal # of passengers, etc. He will need it to determine the best prop for your application.

Jason, my '05 X-star MCX is basically the same boat.
I did run the OJ 14.25 X 14.5 prop.....really good holeshot but lost some top speed and would hit the rev-limiter pretty easy.
I now run the OJ 14.75 X 15.5 and I really like it better. We run about the same ballast as you and 5-6 people in the boat.

Take into account that I'm at sea level, so as stated above talk to Eric @ OJ for some advise. High altitudes will make that MCX work pretty hard I believe, so maybe in your case the 14.25 X 14.5 might be best.

I currently do have the OJ 14.25 x 14.50 1.20 cup prop and the hole shot at this altitude is super slow when weighted

my 05 xstar with mcx came stock with the 13.7 x 17.5. i was not pleaed and eric told me to put the 14.25 x 14.0 on the boat. well, that ended any dissatisfaction i have had with that boat. it completely changed it into a stump puller. i have since traded for an 08 xstar with L18 and it came stock with the 13.7 x 17.5 also. well, again i was dissatisfied so i called eric at oj again and he put me onto the 14.75 x 15.5 and again i am pleased beyond words. i remember eric telling me that the 14.25 x 14 was geared too low for the high-torque L18. i remember him telling me a couple of years ago that the 14.25 x 14.0 is still the preferred prop for heavilly ballasted xstars with mcx. good luck and let us know what eric at oj comes back with for you.
