Is customer service dead?
 
I just don't have any luck with customer service any longer these days. At the start of Spring, I emailed a MC dealer about some tune up parts. After 2 follow-up emails and 1 phone call, I finally got my answer a week later. Last week, I called the same dealer about a different part. Parts guy said that he wasn't at the counter and wanted me to email him. Emailed him within 15 minutes. 2 days later, still no response. Sent a follow-up email on 3rd day. Today is day 8, still no response.

I called my local boat shop with a service question. They are not an MC dealer, but are a certified Indmar shop. Talked to a lady, very nice, listened to my question, seemed to understand what I needed. Told me that she needed to talk to the lead service guy and she would call me back. This was at 11 am, 5 pm still no call. I called about 5:15 and spoke to another person that took my number and said they would tell the original lady that I had called again. 6 days later still no call.

How do you get any of these people to help you out?

It's a lost art. The best thing that I do is develop a working relationship with a service advisor, car and boat dealers. They'll take care of ya. Sadly it seems to be the only way I get good service. If I call up a place I've never been to I set my expectations low.

what parts are you looking for.

Easy for us to say. If you are not a certified low voltage and controls guy the chances of trouble shooting and repairing anything on the new boats is next to impossible. Don't forget your computer programing and oscilloscope. PM may be a different story.

I think it depends on the people in the building, I called around with questions and found a dealer in Illinois who spent more time on the phone than my local marina. I think some are so busy that they do not need the extra work, and then there are some that do not get it.

It is a lost art. When I do find a place today provides it, I stick with them, regardless of they cost more than the competition.

i wish the dealers near me were any good. I will say two great places ive dealt with lately are skidim and evo.com for boat and wake stuff both were great for customer service.
