I installed it opposite direction so it lays flat on the bars over the front in front of the windshield. Try it both ways to see what you like better, also get final position PERFECT to where you want it before you drill into the boat!
You have to pull (stretch the down polls out) to get them over the sides of the windshield, but I think it gives a nice tight look without being huge and detracting.
