dad 23 i have a four rung ladder on my o8 xstar. it is plenty but if you think you want a five rung go for it. it shouldn't be too much more. i would not get a three rung ladder however. i love my ladder and don't use it often but when i want to use it i am glad i have it. that ladder storage locker also serves as an anchor storage locker too. get the ladder unless money prohibits. someone saw one in a catalog that was cheaper than the one ffrom the dealership and it looked identical but i can't swear to that. the ladder is on a slide that allows it to slide forward before it drops down past the rub-rail inbetween the two prongs of the forked bow. make sure if you get a ladder not from MC that it is on the slide track. it slides forward to drop down the slides back under the hinged cover once folded up. if it is not on the slide i don't think it will work. you can email me at
