Hey man, your boat looks great! Looks like you've made some well thought out improvements to the original...

I recently inherited a 79' S&S with the 351ci. It was the boat I grew up on and learned to tow, launch, wrench etc....

I hate to say I definitely didn't pay enough attention to old dad when we would start it up before trips and I just can't seem to figure out which port I would want to connect the hose to, to fire this thing up in the drive way.

I know my dad always just connected the garden hose to it directly at the inlet pump but I don't want to make a costly mistake or even burn up an impeller before I even get to take it out. Can you help?

Here's a shot of what I'm sure you are already familiar with... I scoped it out though and her I have noted what I thought to be the inlet pickup port.

You seem to well versed in fixing stuff so I was wondering if you have any thoughts on my trailer wiring issue. Pulled the boat home yesterday and noticed everytime I put on the brakes or used the turn signal the clearance lights of the side of the trailer would either blink if the trun signal was on or light up when I applied the brakes. Everything worked fine last time I used the trailer and was wondering what might be the problem. If you could shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

How ya doing? My name is Steve, live in Carmel Indiana and very long time MasterCraft owner Enjoy your input here and typically read your responses and threads, you seem to be in tune. Did not want to thread jack the fuel injection thread so I thought I would email you for some input.
I am pretty well versed and mechanically inclined much like you, but the problem I referred to with my engine stalling after use is mind boggling to me. I have done everything, new coil, plug wires, converted to pointless ignition, new fuel filter with water separator, you name it I have done it. The stalling problem started two summers ago and I am at wits end. Like I said, have a good friend who I trust totally, he still says it is ethanol fuel I buy at the gas station which kinda makes sense. Almost like vapor lock or something. Just trying to get thoughts. I think my old oringinal carb may need some attention, but it starts so good and runs so fine I hate to screw around with things. Any other thoughts your may have to address my stalling problem? Thanks and good to meet you.

I own a 1985 MasterCraft Prostar Stars and Stripes with a 351 Windsor....

The last four (4) times I have taken the boat out it runs GREAT and STRONG for approximately two (2) hours and then all of a sudden it begins to bog down as if it's starving for fuel. It becomes very hard to start if it starts at all. The last time I took it out it would start and then every time I put the boat in gear it would stall....

After the first time this happened I changed the in-line fuel filter and it contained approximately two (2) inches of black particles almost resembling coffee grounds. I sunsequently changed the entire fuel filter assembly. I soon thereafter took the boat out again and the SAME problem happened again.

Next, since changing the entire fuel filter assembly, I have also changed the following: entire fuel line, fuel pump, carberator, spark plungs, spark plug wires, PVC value, distributor cap and rotor, and ignition system (replacing the old point system with an electronic PCM kit). In my mind, I thought I have addressed all of the potential items that possible could be causing this problem.

To my surprise, I took the boat out this past weekend, and the same EXACT thing happened again! Boat ran GREAT and STRONG for 2 hours and then began missing and then stalling and it was hard to start. Again, as in before, if the boat started once it was put into geat it stalled.....

I hae NO idea what else to look at here......

My only thought is maybe there is some sludge in the fuel tank that is gathering at the pick up point inside of the fuel tank thus preventing the fuel from being sent to through the system -- and this seems to happen at approximately 2 hours into running the boat which equates to 1/2 of the fuel being expended from the tank..... I have no idea if there is a screen or mesh covering over the fuel pickup inside of the fuel tank....

I am at a total loss here....

I would love to hear some ideas and thoughts from some of the members here as to what this could possible be....
