I am driving through Chicago tomorrow with the boat and am looking for info regarding construction etc. I am coming from Wisconsin and going to Michigan. I usually just stay on on I90 and and take the sky way but I heard there is major construction there. Any suggestions on best routes. Or is it just hopeless. I should hit downtown around noon.

Thanks

I can't comment on the Chicago traffic but you should stop by and clink a beer glass with the guys in GR if you have the time. My door is open for you.

Bring something so you can pee in the car. You're going to need it. Trust me on this one. You don't want to be one of those people who have to get out and pee on a truck tire after you've been sitting in the same place for 5 hours or so.

Why? Is it illegal to stop at gas stations and pee when you drive through chicago?? or rest stops?

You think we have rest stops on the express ways around here!!!!????? You don't get out much. No wonder you ain't drivin to Kentucky..
I think his first rest stop is just over the border in Mich.

And don't use your name on others, that just ain't right (H)UMP, you smackstick.
It's not like the UP where you can get out anywhere along the road and just go....It's business as usual up there.

Thanks for all the advice.
90E to 355(53)S to 88E or 55N to 294S to 80/94W.
There is always US30 on the far southside to go by the construction, but everyone uses it. ESPECIALLY the friday before a holiday.
DO NOT try to go home sunday. There are no worse roads to be on in the country on a sunday afternoon/evening heading west than 80/94.
Steve, how does this advice look? Did I miss something?

Don't use the word freeways here, they don't exist. Cross the border and you will see what I mean...
Which brings up a good point, wakesport, you are in for between $15 and $25 EACH WAY in tolls!!!

Actually, what I meant was - more than once we were stuck in the same place on the freeway south of Chicago for about 5 hours. Even if there were rest stops nobody could get to them. There were a lot of people just getting out of their cars and going on the side of the road. That's the kind of traffic you can be in for.

Towing your boat across the Mackinac Bridge is a treat. WHite knuckle ride for sure. I towed my boat across it on the way home when I bought it.

I don't think it's any different now, maybe worse EVERY WEEKEND!!!
