I was wondering if you guys have any good Netflix suggestions? I've been watching movies and other DVDs like crazy since I joined (unlimited rentals for $19/month). I've run out of things to watch! Just finished Season 1 of Deadwood - not sure if I want to see Season 2 yet. Got Band of Brothers in the queue but already seen it a dozen times.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Even for "chick flicks" because I have to rent those occasionally for the Mrs.

[And NO, not Smokey and the Bandit UMP! ]

That movie is hilarious, you don't need to rent it though. It seems like it's on every other week on cable.....

Ha, seen that one about a dozen times
Great soundtrack too.

"I'm the pader familius!"

"She R-U-N-D-O-F-T"

:D

Have you seen Raising Arizona by the same guys? One of the funniest movies ever! "I'll take these Huggies and whatever cash you got" I think I'll put them both in my queue.

The Cohen brothers also did "The Big Lebowski" and "Fargo". I thought "Fargo" was hilarious, but it didn't play well here in Minnesota. Personally, I thought they hit the Minnesota stereotype pretty much dead-on, but a lot of Minnesotans took some offense. That movie was centered around the Brainerd area, where I live.

The Big Lebowski, another great. Never saw Fargo, perhaps I should.

The Big Lebowski, another great. Never saw Fargo, perhaps I should.

The prologue of Fargo states that it's a true story, but it's not. The New York Times actually called the current Police Chief of Brainerd, to ask him about the whole story. He told them it wasn't true, and they printed a story accusing a cover-up.

As long as you're on the Coen Bros., the man who wasn't there is excellent. Some didn't like it as it is intentionally slow paced, but I thought it was pretty amazing. Lebowski is still my favorite though.

For the HBO stuff, Entourage is great. As are all seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I'll beat JimN to it and recommend "Used Cars." ;)

Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums

Metropolitan (if you can find it), Barcelona, Last Days of Disco (if you're into the dialogue pics).

Of the recent oscar nominated stuff, I thought Munich was the best of the crop.

I'm sure there are others. I need to rearrange our Netflix queue. Seem to be getting a lot of random chick flix lately.

I watched Siriana Sunday night. I had tired head afterwards... Hard to follow and it jumps around alot. Makes more sense to me now than it did right after.

We actually really liked Derailed.

Yeah, that was the latest one we rented. Real disappointment IMO. They wasted a lot of good talent on that one... The story (if there was one) was impossible to follow.

The main thing I remember about that movie is: It sure looks cold up there! If it's really like that, you guys have my sympathy.. ;)
Great movie though, you should get it LP.

It wasn't shot around here. The big expanse of long, straight, desolate, treeless highway they kept showing is North Dakota. Nothing like that anywhere in the Brainerd Lakes area, where the roads are winding and the trees come right up to the shoulder.

Not that it doesn't get cold here...., but really, I'd rather have 10-20 degrees all winter than 35-45. I hate the snow/melt/slush/freeze cycles common in other parts of the midwest. If it's too cold for boating, I'd rather be snowmobiling. I can always put on a warmer coat.

Glad to hear it BigMac. I agree - having lived in the DC area half my life - the winters were cold enough to make us uncomfortable but too warm and wet to have decent snow, which would usually melt the next day and turn to brown slush.

dont know if it's yet available for Rental but we went and saw Premonition last night. The one with Sandra Bullock. Good flick. Lots of people cried and the wife and I were like "we were too busy trying to figure it out". Anyone else seen it?

Got "The Queen" a couple weeks ago, mainly for the wife.
Surprisingly good actually.

Watched the first episode of Season 1 of "The Shield". Anybody watch that show. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with it yet. The rest of the season is in my Netflix queue.

Little addictted to movies myself. Had some time on the drive to NC-:) Here's a few I watched

Last King of Scotland--excellent
The Queen-a little slow
Dreamgirls-better than I thought
Because I said so--sappy but a good time filler
Freedom Writers--good but predictable
The Good Shepard--not to be funny! excellent--gotta stay with it though

Few favorites
Old School
The in-laws
Donnie Brosco
Freedomland with Samaul Jackson--very very good--

I am in a similar situation with Netflix...... I have run out of options. I am thinking that I may cancel and wait a while until more new stuff comes out. I have also been fairly disappointed to see that most of the stuff I want to see has a "short wait". That just started recently....maybe more subscribers now?

shepherd
05-24-2007, 01:55 PM
Some of them say "long wait", and they weren't kidding

It does seem to be a new thing, or at least more common now. One reason I went with Netflix is because I wouldn't have to wait a couple weeks for the latest releases to show up on the Blockbuster shelves because they were always checked out.
