New POLL, where is the POLL?

The POLLice are cranking up and heading your way UMP! How can we have a UMP option when the UMP leaves the POLL out of his own POLL, that doesn't exist?...............

He's a barefooter. Ergo, he should buy a Barefoot 200 or the like. Had he required a boat that could do something other than lay out a perfect barefoot wake, he should've kept the perfectly good 190 he already had.

He's a DD man. Besides, how would it look if he was trying to sell new Direct Drives and he had an outboard. I think Chicago MC should let him have a company boat so he gets familiar wih every aspect of the new models. Or he should just buy my 205 ! ;)

Upper Michigan Prostar190

well, he wears a captain hat, but sits in the back by the motor to steer it. The other features are, a very spacious metal and vinyl interior, a decent leak in the hull, but the hills bros coffee can bilge pump feature takes care of that problem nicely! Other features are the engine needs tune up, and its got plenty of dents! A few broken fishing rods and a fishing rod holder are also included! and in the event the engine fails, there is a handy set of oars right in the boat! a few PFD seat cushions, and in case of emergencies, there is a small mirror on it taht you can reflect the sun with using morse code to signal for help.

197 I can draft well under 2 feet of water and not worry about dinging the prop. BF200 trimmed down is drafting alot more water than a 197.

Well under 2' in a 197? What does it draw? I'm only at 22". Whatever it is (the 2005 manual doesn't say as far as I can tell), I wouldn't expect to get that depth at the hole shot. Be careful if you're running a DD on a shallow, rocky bottom. Skiing, I've run mine at 3' once. The bottom was all mud, but it still bothered me.

The bottom on the river we ski at changes all the time with the current, so it can go from 6 ft. to 3 ft. pretty rapidly which is why I would be concerned with always running an OB engine on that river. There are people that do it, but you really have to know where the channel is (it isn't marked) and stay right in the middle.

my 01' 190 with full fuel , no people, drafts exactly 18".
Put 4 in it evenly (600lbs), and it's at 22"
put 3 in the back, 3 in front, and it's at 25"
i idle across a "2.8" on the depth finder quite often. scary, but its the only way to the deeper water.
i would never ski it though
yes i measured. i needed a comparison to the depth guage.

I always assumed that the depth gage was reading from the point of the transducer(not the waterline)

agua4fun
06-28-2006, 07:27 PM
yeah, based on my comparison numbers it is, but i also find it is a bit off of that too. 2.8 on the depth finder actually = 35" of water
id say thats about right assuming the transducer is a few inches below the water at idle, but thats why i measured to see. i'm curious by nature i guess.
obviously measuring close doesnt really work in the real world. one softball sized rock and goodbye prop.

EDIT: (the measurements above are from the surface)

I don't know how much different it would feel. They go 45 regardless! Yes you will get a split secont quicker 0 to time but these puppies are geared so low it is getting to be pointless. My buddy has the LTR in an 03 X-9 and the engine is bullet proof and has plenty of power! One thing I will say is that the engine upgrades are probably not as much of an upgrade as they are made out to be. These boats run with almost anything! :twocents: I can't wait to drive one with the new 400hp engine :)

No dice. If I'm going analog, I go vinyl. But since I don't want my Beatles albums getting wet and scratched, it's all in deck mp3 on the water.

Lots of the stuff you hear today on CD was still recorded to tape. Many musicians find going straight to hard disk sounds to sterile. Plus, unless it's synth or midi, it's all analog initially.

Eastie is right. MANY musicians still record to tape. lots of musicians love the ease of pro-tools, but cant stand the sterile sound. Non musicians my find this odd, but MANY musicians record on totally digital equipment, and then bounce the track to tape, and then back to a hard drive to get rid of the "sterile" characteristics. I have a hard disk recorder in my studio, and I typically mix my tracks using a cheap POS boom box as a crude monitor with one of those cassette adapter things. If you mix it to sound good on that, it will generally sound good on any device. I have read alot of people do this too. If you mix using kick arse monitors, it sounds like crap on car stereos, home stereos, etc....

The ones I know do the basic tracks on tape (usually 1/4", but some of them use a four track). Then they feed it into pro tools and do the overdubs there. Some of the newer software has a feature that'll dirty things up to save you the time of bouncing it to tape and back.

Not possible as no one is marinizing them anymore.

I heard the story of Ford getting out of the marine business yesterday. Apparently, PCM had agreed to buy engines through a set date. Ford announced that it planned to start doing its own marinizations and had a plant ready to go to build marine engines. PCM apparently told them to shove it in protest and changed to chevy around 2002. After 9/11, Ford closed the plant. So no more Ford although I suppose someone could start using them again.

Some of the details could have been lost in translation, but that was the long and short of it as I understood it.
