View Full Version : Engine Clearance - noise dampening

I'm still lurking around here - the '78 Stars and Stripes is getting closer, slowly, to being ready for the water.

I want to make the boat quieter when complete, so i bought some of the noise-deadening insulation from Overton's.

The question I have for those of you that have used it - how much clearance do I need around the motorbox, etc for this stuff to work?

I have the Ford 351W with Holley 6100 carb to give you an idea on size.

I think there's enough room to do it, but I don't want to bust open the package of sound deadening stuff and have it come out too fat to work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's thicker than the stock stuff. I didn't have clearance issues with it until I put a new intake manifold on.
