we spent the week after memorial day at lake Tahoe.
no riding just boating with water temp of 49*F, had a few nights at 29*F and boat covered in ice.
for those that have never been:
Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States and the largest alpine lake in North America.

Lake Tahoe's water would cover the State of California completely to a depth of 14.5 inches.

Lake Tahoe's water is 99.9% pure. The water is so clear that a 10 inch white dinner plate would be visible at 75 feet below the surface.

There are 63 tributaries draining into Lake Tahoe with only one outlet at the Truckee River.

Tahoe is a beautiful lake to go boating! Love to go over to Emerald Bay. The water is freezing year around though! 4th of July is sweet because of the firework show right over the water!

My Brother-in-law just got back from a boat ride on lake Tahoe. He said the Average depth is 1000' and the max depth is 1800' with a visibility of 80' he was talking with the boat captain and the captain tossed 2 quarters in the water and said they fall at X' per second and it would take almost an hour and a half for them to hit the bottom! That is SUPER crazy. Hard to believe. I wanna get there and see it for myself. Sounds Unreal! Cold though, man.

That lake is super deep! I have even heard that they have some parts that no one has found the bottom! Crazy if true!

We spent a week there last summer and really is so beautiful. I never saw a lift since the water is so pure nothing grows on your boat I guess.

I also loved the woodies!

I totally agree, it is a beautiful place, but you are right oooohhhhh so cold! Even the boat ride can be cool!

It looks like the shadow of the woodie reflecting off the bottom.... if so, that is just beautiful! how deep is it there?

A couple more water shots from Tahoe, just for good measure...The water under the boat in the first shot is probably 20-30 feet...

We were on the Lake this weekend. Absolutely incredible!!!! Unfortunately I was more worried about keeping the bow out of the water. We plan on getting back there soon. What's a good time of the year and time of the day to be on the water? Extremely jealous of the pictures above.

How does the boat run at that altitude? Have always thought about dragging the boat up there. Went to UNR so we did a lot of "studying" at Sand Harbor and Kings beach. Lake Tahow is one of my favorite places in the world!:)

We went out in early April (skiing, not boating) and that is truly a beautiful area. You almost get numb to the fact that you are standing on top of a mountain, getting ready to ski down to the lake. Breathtaking views everywhere you look.
FYI, there is a ski school just outside of South Lake Tahoe that has a few MCs

tahoe is beautiful. worked at harrah's south shore summer of my sr year in college and went skiing at heavenly on honeymoon. have been back and skiid squaw, northstar, and mt. rose. love it out there but water is too cold for someone like myself who was raised in florida. another tidbit is that tahoe is the 2nd deepest lake in the world second only to lake baikal in siberia. its limnology is truly unique to this hemisphere.

We had ours up there last 4th and the boat ran fine...no noticable difference. Although, we were just cruising around though.

I skiied there about 2 years ago, you got to get out first thing in the morning or late evening. The chop comes up and they are white caps. Fell making a hard cut due to the fin coming out of the water and ended up cracking a rib. Other than that and the frigid water, Lake Tahoe is a great place to boat and snow ski. Up there every winter for the skiing.

At least you didn't have to ice the rib.

we built a cabin in the south shore back in the late 60s. used to spend a lot of time up there. kept the boat at the keys many summers. we had a "high alt." prop. we put on. my parents used to use a wetsuit. us kids didn't. i remember it being very hot out of the water and very cold in it. but we did it, anyway. though, there were a few times we would jump in out of the boat and spent the next 30 frantic seconds trying to get back in the boat!!! the water was amazing, as far as clarity. i remember sticking my head out over the bow as we drove out every morning. crazy what one would see... it is also the location where i learned to appreciate boats and fell in love w/ mastercrafts. chris crafts of all sizes, stars and stripes, woodies, etc. they were all in the keys... you're right, the wind and chop would come up in the late mornings and run until late afternoon. white caps and all. great place to be, though!
