View Full Version : Incorrect Tachometer Reading
When I attached a dwell meter to my coil it reads 650 RPM yet my tachometer reads 1,800 rpm. Does anyone know what is up with this? (1983 S&S; 351) Any brand name favorites for replacement tach?

Most Tach/Dwell meters I have seen will have a switch or a knob to set it for a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine. Is the dwell meter you're using set up that way?
My tach works fine at 2000 rpm and above. I ordered a new tach from DIM over the weekend; Iíll post my results after I install it.
I installed a new tachometer last weekend; Iím getting accurate RPM readings through the whole range now.

I'm not getting accurate readings below 1000 RPM and the tachometer shows 1000RPM when it's in fact running at iddle speed 650/700 RPM....
It's a teleflex tachometer with the hours counter integrated. it's the original one of a PS190 year 93.
Is there something to adjust on it ? or should I change it? Where can I find the original one ? if it is still available. Thanks in advance.
I'm unaware of any adjustments that can be made. I just ordered a new one from Discount Inboarc Marine (online)
