$$$ is somewhat of an object! What would you change about your Mastercraft-I would upgrade from the preditor to one of the stronger motors.

If you have twin engines, shouldn't a full bar come stock?

I agree I also would like more horsepower! My 1987 prostar 190 had I feel the right HP to weight ratio. It was a fun boat to drive. My 2002 197 is still fun to drive but not the same feeling.

I respect your choice, but offer mine too. The only thing I would do with your choice is polish off the minibar, sell the behemoth, and buy a nice little PS197

Speaking of engines, I was just designing my dream boat, when I got to engine selection. Question. Would adding the L-18 HO screw up the wake cause it is so heavy? Man I'd love to have the 450 hp, but not if the wake gets bigger. Your thoughts, weight vs HP??? Which engine is best for a power hungry, yet picky about the wake, slalom skier...

Mag- you ordered the boat with the MCX, did they charge you for that or the motor you got? Salesman screw up! they ended up taking the cost of the MCX upgrade off the cost of the boat and gave me a $1,500 store credit to buy what ever I wanted at a 15% discount to boot :headbang: I was originally pissed about the motor, but the boat arrived one week before Memorial day and the only way to get the boat I ordered was to get another production slot. All in all, things worked out to my benefit :woohoo:

Mag, don't worry about it too much, from what I understand, you still come out really well on the low end torque with the Predator. Still sucks that you didn't get what you ordered though.

I'd like a heater, new upholstery, a tower and of course a lake house to park it at (or at the very least at least a heated garage!)

My boat has PLENTY of power

I just liked the pretty "Mag Red" intake manifold. It's a dead on color match to the Vette. I'm more than happy with the performance of the Predator motor :) besides....it seems to get great mileage compared to the last boat I had with a 454 ci monster in it!

New vehicle to tow it with and a house on a lake somewhat south of here... Nahh.. if I've got the house on the lake, I don't need a new tow vehicle...

I would change the prop on my PT 197 LQ9 Powerslot from the stck 14 x 20 to about a 13.5 x 18 as i run this boat at altitude and can not get the motor to redline. The boat would run better with a lower pitch prop I am sure.
Come to think of it, I will order a new prop for spring!!
All you folks that want heaters they are not that hard to install as my boat did not come with and I bought a Heatercraft unit off E Bay and installed it last spring. Heat is Good!!

I would like a nice tower with speakers and lights. But mostly a lake house with dock and storage garage.
Lake property is expensive in Indianapolis area, I think we need more dams/lakes. Growing up in East TN and TVA/Army Corp of Engineers would like to see that here so we don't have flooding several times a year, with benefit of nice lake.

I have the same problem of no tow vechile. But when i was looking for a new boat it was either a mastercraft and no tow vechile or something cheaper and a tow vechile. But thank god my neighbor is shuch a nice person. He puts my boat in for me in the spring and takes it out in the fall. You have to have your priorities in order.

captkidd
10-15-2004, 10:41 AM
Sizzler, there's a tow package for a Beetle. It's called an Ram 3500 / F-350 / 3500 Duramax :D Just put the Beetle in the back and hook the boat to the truck.

If I could change anything about my boat it would definitely be to add more storage. By the time we get everyone's stuff loaded into the boat, you can't walk around without having to step over it all. A rear storage area / sunpad would be great. More storage room under the observer's seat would also be nice. It's a lot easier to add more horsepower than to add more storage space.

hi ya leroy.......most boats have been winterized on our lake but i'm keeping mine going..i have always skiied thru' the winter and have some hard core pals who love the quietness of the winter..instead of leaving the boat at the lake i will take it home on the sun night and return on the fri. evening......if the weather is too bad we have a dry ski slope (synthetic)at the lake...i know its not the real thing but its ok to learn things and passs away the hours...my sisters girl has just been picked for the schools world skiing championships(snow) ,so she is coming up to give me a few lessons this weekend ,and i will teach her to w/board,barefoot in return....as for stuff...i would love to order it from the states, but we get shafted on the tax when we have it posted to us!! if i'm in NY on business(3xyr) i get stuff sent to my hotel and then take it home on the plane(dont tell the tax man)......a pal of mine owns a boat shop(not MC unfort) so he undercuts anyone in the UK for me

I had a ps 190 1989 with a big block 454 that power to weight ratio was awesome. I also use to teach waterskiing in the hamptons NY in 95 and use to drive a brand new ps. I wasn't to keen how that boat felt under power. sorry all you 95 owners. just my opinion.

The more I think about it, I would make my 197 almost 2' longer, about 6" wider, have a walk through to the open bow, lose the ski locker/ trunk, and probably throw in wrap around seating. All that while keeping the slalom wake the same.
