Who has the best boat coverage? I just bought a new 2005 X9 and have been with USAA with good results but when we got the boat Texas Mastercraft gave us a five day binder with VOYAGER. Voyager's quoat was almost $500.00 a year cheaper. The limits are about the same.

$500 a year cheaper? The annual premium on my '04 230VRS is $500...(includes replacement value rather than just base value or agreed price)

MPMartin,

Welcome, I hope Jimmy, Todd, and Mark treated you well. Check out Global Marine. That is who I use and they are who USA Waterski recomends.

Since the boating season can be year round in the south, rates can be more expensive than in the north where there are long lay-up periods. I have Boat U.S., agreed value runs me about $550 - $600.

Yikes!! $977!! That a lot of $$$...

My policy is with Progressive (http://watercraft.progressive.com/corporate/watercraft_options.asp) . They also have all my cars (6 cars!). I've had no reason to complain about them.

Yeah but...$977 vs $388!!! Quite a spread...

I'm with Voyager now. They have been fine thusfar but I haven't asked them for or claimed anything either. They weren't the cheapest nor we're they the most expensive either. I think Progressive was 12% cheaper when I checked last spring but that is also on a 7 year old MC.

No doubt, it pays to shop. My agreed value here costs me more than your replacement value. Just for grins I may have to get a quote on replacement. I did do a quote on Progressive's site, it was a few dollars more.

I almost did not check because USAA is so much cheaper on everything. Sounds like Progressive may get the call. I would like to hear from some one who has had a claim.

I've had a couple of auto claims with Progressive over the years - no problems there at all. They even have a pretty good sense of humor about my 22 y/o and 21 y/o kids, who are still on our policy. Never have had a boat claim, though...

What about ski safe? I used them, and it was $292 for the year on my 190.

A friend told me that ski safe did him wrong on some stuff that was stolen out of his boat. They stated that the gera all had to be locked up before they would allow a claim. I think the radio got taken as well and they denied the claim.

I am definitely going ot check out all of the stuff mentioned. I have progressive and it is about $30 more than some of the sites that were mentioned in previous thread about three weeks ago.

I bought a Progressive policy through my agent (Horace Mann Insurance) and he was able to get it for a lot less than I could get it for directly from Progressive. I pay $161 for a full year (no lay up period) for a 91 Prostar with replacement value of $13,500. Everybody else wanted at least $300.

I have Progressive, and had a theft/damage claim a couple of years ago. They were pretty good about paying the claim. It took some time, but they did pay. Probably no worse than others when it comes to prying money out of their hands.

This is exactly what I have. No complaints here.

Does that cover the gammut of issues like gear theft, collision with underwater obstructions, while trailering? Or are there any limitations?

I'm paying right at $300 for AAA including the add on of all gear covered. I need to be able to go in to a place for dinner without chomping at the bit wondering who's looking in my boat. Come one all you Lake Elsinore guys, you know what I'm talking about.

Your auto policy covers the boat when tailering. Yes the boat policy covers gear, underwater obstacles etc.

My new X7 with total coverage equaling 41k (boat and trailer) is insured thru State Farm for $328 per year. That includes million dollar liability. I never shopped it because everything else we have is thru this agent (life, home, cars, etc...) so I figured what the heck........
