Hey guys, been registered here for a while but this is my first post. First off I just wanted to say I have read TONS of useful information here and it is great to have a community as knowledgeable as this one. Although I do not own a MC, I do have a 91 American Skier with the Indmar 351, which is used in many of the older MC's, so I have learned tons about this engine. Thanks!

My problem:

I just noticed the dipstick is loose on my 1:1 borg warner velvet drive. Is it just the rubber around the dipstick that holds it in tight, or did something break off of mine? Has anyone else had the problem of their dipstick becoming loose? Hopefully a new one from Skidim will fix the problem, but I wanted to get your input first. Thanks!

Dave,

Same issue with my 85 warner gear, never gave it much thought, the stick just sits there all happy.

Keen to see a learned response from someone in the know

hold the rubber and screw the handle to the right.

The way these sticks work the rubber expands as the stick is drawn into it, then to remove you unscrew the dipstick and the rubber shrinks down again.

There you go.

edit, the appropriate method is to insert the dipstick fully, then hold the rubber to keep it from spinning, then turn the dipstick's handle. Not tighten it then force it in and out.

agreed, put it in the hole, hold, and twist
