Howdy all. I was wondering if anyone uses an ipod aboard for music and if so, have you secured it in a mount of some type or do you just lay it on the dash? I've seen some neat articulated GPS mounts designed for aircraft cockpits that look like they'd work well but wanted to get some other ideas too.

By the way, if you haven't discovered the ipod yet, check 'em out. I have a new 4th generation 40 gig unit that now has over 7,300 songs on it and I still have nearly 12 gigs of hard drive left! These things are waayyyy coooolllll. :headbang:

Thanks for the input.

The best things I've seen are Ram Mounts. http://www.ram-mount.com/

I'm pretty sure West Marine carries them.

Thanks guys. The Ram Mounts are what I had been looking at. Just wondered if anyone else may have come up with a McGuyverish type mount.

I'll sell you a roll of duct tape and some fishing line for 15 bucks. :D

I use a Ipod Mini with ITrip FM transmitter and I just put the unit in any empty cup holder, works great!

I found the Griffin PodPod on the IPod web site. (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/podpod/) It appears to be nothing more than a piece of foam that is made to fit the IPod and a cup holder.

I have been thinking of geting an IPod or a Dell Jukebox, just waiting for the right deal to come along.

Go for the ipod! It is handsdown the best MP3 on the market.

We use the iPod and the FM transmitter in the boat as well, and love it. I'm curious if anyone has found a better way to use it though, than with the FM transmitter. The quality is a little weak, and I hate to crank the system up when there is any hissing or static - albeit very minimal. Just like any FM transmission, I wouldn't crank the radio like I would with CD's.

Has anyone hard wired the iPod directly into a factory installed Clarion receiver somehow? I haven't looked at the receiver yet to know if there are any jacks that could be used.

If you already have a Clarion XDM3 you can plug into the AUX in. I saw one of the boat companies had an adaptor placed inside the glove box. Two RCA female ends that you just plug into.

I see that BMW now has a seamless dock for an IPod.
Hopefully a universal option like this will soon be available. I would sure be nice to easily use it in the boat, truck, car, home, work, etc......
