2000 Maristar has standard(inacurate) pitot style speedo pickup keeps getting clogged causing no speed reading on the dash and skier to gripe and fuss at driver/spouse (very bad)!!!
Can the pitot type pickup be converted to or replaced with the paddle style on the transom?
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Next option is perfect pass, love to have but dont have a grand plus in the "fun budget".......

Just don't buy groceries this month and buy Perfect Pass. You will wonder how you ever lived without. Until then clean out the pitots (again) and then have your driver hold speed with the rpm gauge insted of the speedo. Will give you a much more consistent pull.

Brian is right on the money there. One thing to consider is if you decided to upgrade to different speedo's you'd have almost (if not more) money in that scenario than you would with PP.

On current MasterCrafts, since 2002, the gauge info goes through an MMU so since you don't have that, you'd have to start from scratch and install a paddlewheel AND electronic speedometer gauge. WG Faria company makes a variety of paddlewheel senders AND many, many different electronic gauge styles. You can get paddlewheels that mount on the transom, through-hulls, through hulls with integrated depth and/or temperature, etc. MasterCraft (and several other boats) use a through-hull with temp sensor, but if you don't want to drill a 2-inch hole through your hull (no big deal, really), you could get a transom mount. Faria makes the paddlewheels made for speedometers on all the current tow boats IIUC.

Look HERE (http://faria-instruments.com/site_manuals/IS0105H.pdf) for the installation manual for an electronic speedometer. I don't know where you'd buy the thing, nor do I know how much it costs relative to Perfect Pass (which IMHO would be the best solution). I'd start with my MasterCraft dealer. If he couldn't help me, I'd next call Lauderdale Speedometer (http://www.lspeedo.com/) .

Depending on the style of pickups that you have, I've found the that venturi style that Accuski and skidim sell are far superior to the original airguide pickups when it comes to not getting plugged up and they're not expensive.

Pilot is right on. While I'd go with Perfect Pass all else being equal, I've read that the replacement pickups that skidim sells do not clog as frequently as your OEM pickups. Different hole patters, so be prepared to fill and drill.
