Does anyone know what the resistance value of the ballast resistor is supposed to be (cold)?

I have a 1986 Mastercraft with the 351W engine.

Thanks in advance!

If you call an auto parts store, they should be able to tell you. It's generally marked on the side but can burn off over time. Measure yours and post it here.

Mine measured 1.6ohms. The material insided the wire loop is cracked (this is the original resistor from the boat) and the wire is noticably burnt. Depending on the electrical system there are ballast resistors from 0.9ohms to 3+ohms. I was going to go ahead and replace mine but am not sure what the correct value is for my system and my local auto parts store doesn't have that information.

I'm all for getting rid of the ballast resistor and going with the 12V coil, but will need to find the instructions on how to do that. If anyone has those instructions, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks!
