View Full Version : PowerSlot for MCX engine?

Hey boaters,

I'm considering the Powerslot upgrade for my new X9 on the 350 horse MCX engine. Anybody have it? Is it worth the money? It's about $1250 CAD and I don't know if I should drop the coin.

Thanks,
Jim

There are many who swear by the gear-reduction option, the advantage being a stronger hole shot and better pull in the course. Others would argue that with engines being as powerful as they are today, the option may not be as necessary as it once was. If you are a die hard course skier, it might be worth looking into. If you plan to use the boat for free skiing 99% of the time, it could prove to be money better spent elsewhere.

RUMOR CONTROL !!!
being that the BOAT tests were this past week in Florida
The NEW transmission has been tested 1:26-1.0

It will be avail soon. Consider that over the SLOT option

MCX with the new transmission will be the greatest option on the
planet Just wait and see

Great! A new option!

I can't wait to see the test results, 1:1 vs 1.26:1 vs 1.5:1

I wonder what prop the 1.26 to one will use.

1.26:1 ....... hmmm, sounds lot like a Nautique/PCM standard feature.

Jim, are you saying 1.26:1 or 1.26:1/1.0:1 ? is it a 2 speed tranny. I'm not sure why they'd go to a 1.26:1 instead of a 1.5:1.

I'll bet it's a one speed 1.26/1. Newer engines have 100 more horses than the original slots. This ratio is in between the 1.5/1 and a 1/1 which may give you more low end without as much loss of top end.
Pleasurecraft had a similar transmission a number of years ago.

The 1:123 is the standard tranny for CC's that are direct drive. They call it Power Plus. THe 1-126 should mate up well with MC's engine packages.

(it was early when I wrote that, thanks for the corrections)

At last report (Saturday 10/9) we are dropping the 1.52:1 transmission in favor of the newly certified 1.26:1. The option will still be called PowerSlot; this will be a running change. It is my understanding that the final prop utilized in the test (and certified) was a 13.7x17.5 OJ.

I believe the Correct Craft ratio is 1.23:1.

MyMC, 1.23:1 is what I remember as well. I presume there will still be a 1:1? I could be completely wrong, but I remembered hearing that correct craft no longer offered a 1:1? If I'm mistaken, be gentle. It's early, and I haven't seen the sun in a week.

East, we are still offering the 1:1, only change is to elminate 1.52:1 and replace with the 1.26:1.

I beleive you are correct that all Correct Craft "ski" boats are 1.23:1. I dont beleive they offer a 1:1, and havent in some time.

Did Mr. Burns block out the sun over there?

I'm not familiar with the new 1:26 tranny. If you only have the option between the powerslot and 1:1, get the powerslot. I've got a 197 with the 1:1. My friend has the same boat with the PS; it's awesome. Much better holeshot and all around pull. Easier to get off the trailer as well.

I don't understand why it would be easier to unload from the trailer with a powerslot tranny ...

Good catch! You must be a fan. Ever notice that Montgomery Burns always answers the phone with "ahoy"? It is supposed to be a masked reference to how old he is. When Bell first envisioned everyone having telephones it was his idea to have us all answer them with "ahoy".

ok, please clear this up. MC still will have the 1:1 standard but will offer a new power slot trany. Is that correct?

MYMC, I caught that episode of Modern Marvels on the History Channel as well. "Ahoy ahoy."

"Have the Rolling Stones killed. Do as I say!"

Aprgriggs, yes, according to MYMC's post above. 1:1 standard. 1.26:1 "Powerslot" still optional.

Mr.Burns: Quick Smithers. Bring the mind eraser device!

Mr.Burns: Precisely.

East, it is good to see another fan!

Oh, and April...two transmission options 1:1 and 1.26:1

I'd guess on the trailer loading comment and say that the additional torque (from a bigger prop) means less RPM's to get the boat on or off the trailer.

JimN
10-16-2004, 01:16 AM
Someone is thinking of getting the Powerslot so they can get the boat off of the trailer easier? Huh? I thought the extra torque was so the skier gets up faster/easier. It won't get off of the trailer at lower RPM because it still requires a certain amount of thrust. If the trailer isn't in the water far enough it won't come off very easily, if at all. The stern needs to be just less than bouyant to get off without catching the bow eye. If the launch is too steep, there's no use in trying to unload it if the trailer falls away from the boat since the bow is pressing down into the V rest.

We covered this in the old site. Try backing the trailer in a couple of feet too far, then pull out till it's where it should normally be in order to launch. That way, the bunks are wet and lubricated so the boat will slide off without needing to rev it so high.

April...don’t kid yourself...trust me on this one! BUY THE SLOT! Sure they make more power than they used to but there is also a LOT more boat in the water (add ballast to the equation and it means even more).
I still believe in the 1.52:1; however, the new 1.26:1 (fresh from pulling the World Record event at Trophy Lakes this weekend) just arrived and I'm going to give it a try...

April,
list your boat on ebay
I did and got a ton of responses from a couple of thousand "looks" on the counter thingey. The guy who bought it first saw it listed there and ended up buying the boat.

Slot/Noslot? It really depends on what you will be doing with your new boat. Do you ski competition?
I don't (15 & 22off 34mph) and I've skiid 197 with mcx / slot and 197 with mcx /NO-slot. Unless you are deep shortline competitor you wont really notice the $1500 difference. If it were cheaper I'd say do it just for the helluvit.

MYMC, I think you stumped me with that last quote. I remember it, but don't remember the episode at all.

Now, in the spirit of early voting ...

Mr. Burns: "This anonymous clan of slack-jawed troglodytes has cost me the election, and yet if I were to have them killed, I would be the one to go to jail. That's democracy for you."

Smithers: "You are noble and poetic in defeat, sir."

Yeah, well how many posts does it take to say Power slot, whatever the ratio, will probably make you really happy if you have the extra money lying around. ;)

I have a powerslot in my 93 S&S - for which I looked a long time to find. I had a earlier inboard that also had one. It's part of my decor...a gotta have.
