I’ll be drinking lots of espressos tonight! For those who don’t know, I own a coffee shop. Every once in a while, we’ll get together with a few other cafes and do a Barista Throw Down. It would be similar to getting together with a few ski teams and doing a combined show. We just do it with coffee. We get together, trash talk a little bit, and learn different techniques. It’s fun. It’s exciting. And it’s a way to create camaraderie in out industry.

How do you like your martinis M-F? Gin or Vodka? Shaken or stirred? Olive or Twist? Dry or sweet or dirty?

Me: Gin (Bombay Sapphire). Dry. Twist. Shake it or stir it, I don't care.

After stocking up the bar and pulling out the liquor for the Christmas party last month, I've been experimenting with different cocktails. A few of my favorites:

Martini (of course). Gin. Straight up.
Manhattan - Canadian Club, Sweet Vermouth, Maraschino Cherry, dash bitters, over ice.
Old Fashioned - Maker's Mark, simple syrup, bitters, cherry, over ice.

Any other suggestions? No more than 3 or 4 ingredients please.

Good point. I heard that too, but never tried it. Maybe next time.
That Johnny Walker Blue is a pretty serious gift! I thought about buying that instead of the Remy Martin, but it was almost twice as expensive and I've never had it before so I wouldn't know what I was buying. I'll have to try it some time!

An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for much of North Texas through Monday morning as freezing rain slowly moves across the region. Some areas could see one inch or more of ice accumulation. Scores of flights have been canceled at D/FW International Airport; the weather also spoiled plans for two Saturday morning parades.

Not to threadjack-Here is what I'll be drinking just in case we are iced in.

Sapphy Dry
Ice a Cocktail Glass.
Pour 7 and 1/2 ounces of Bombay Sapphire into a cocktail shaker full of ice. Wave vermouth over shaker (keep the lid on). Rub a lemon twist around lip of glass, then place in glass, swirl shaker three times, and strain into glass.

We had a dinner party Saturday night. I made margaruitas. the real deal too, not the pre-mix stuff you get at the store. I actually squeezed fresh limes for the lime juice. 1 part Tequila, 1/2 part triple sec, 1/2 part lime juice. They were pretty good. I find that I just cant drink beer anymore. I can drink one or two, but beyond that, it just dont agree with me. I think I may be allergic to somthing in it. so I find I am expereimenting drinking more mixed drinks. I like them, and the hard liquors dont mess me up like the beer does. I find I can drink much more har liqour and feel fine the next day. Beer just messes me up. I dont know how to describe it,but I just dont feel right. my nose gets all stuffy, the next day is not fun at all. Hard liqour doesnt do that at all. I find I can have a good time, and not suffer for it.

Lemon juice, shot of bourbon, honey, HEAT! Maybe some cinnamon and nutmeg?????

1 1/2 ounces Whiskey
1 ounce Honey
1/3 ounce Lemon Juice
3 ounces Water (Hot)
If you have a microwave, the easiest way to make this drink is to warm the honey and lemon juice for about half a minute and then to add hot water and the whiskey. Otherwise, we recommend that you stir the honey and lemon juice into extremely warm water, allow it to cool slightly, and add the whiskey.

No Wonder I kept dumping honey and lemon juice into the Whiskey and warming it up in the microwave.

We (the wife and I) will usually stop after three at the local, but then we'll head home for another "Jeff-Tini"...It's like a martini, only bigger and stronger...see, the guy at the bar, he keeps his gin on the counter and it's warm. So when he pours it over the ice in the shaker, the warm alcohol melts the ice and dilutes it...so I get what I think is a weak martini. I, on the other hand, keep my gin in the freezer. So when I pour it over the ice in the shaker, not much ice melts, and voila...the Jeff-Tini...

Happy Friday!

A good martini consists of:
- a glass swirled with vermouth then dump the vermouth out!!!!
- about 2 shots of high quality Vodka or Gin (chilled of course) shaken in a tin with ice.
- A twist spun around the rim of the glass or a single stuffed olive

I drink scotch though so pour me a Glen with some ice or neat and I am like a pig in sh!t!!!!!

Dropped in for a quick martini(BombaySaphire). Off to Physical Therapy for the 1st time this year. They did all the measurements. The range of motion is the same but having major problems with the hip and knee. I will go back to martinis in a minute. Welcome RAPUNZAL! I do mine with Saphire and I use a mister and give it 1 and 1/2 squirts. It is less than the in and out method(reminds me of college birth control). I like olives or a twist! :toast: :toast:

Her aunt is American, but works for Coca-Cola and has lived all over...Hong Kong, Hotlanta, Hungary, Japan, and now London for the past 10 years or so. She's staying in London. She'd like to buy a place in the Marlybone area, but it's uber $$$...

Her aunt is only about 4 years older than me, so she took us to lots of fun place. Tapas bars, wine bars, GREAT pubs, Indian restaurants. She usually just sent us off to the sightseeing places since she'd seen them so many times.

I donated blood for the first time ever today. No problem, but they told me to avoid strenuous exercise until tomorrow. I was going to hit the gym today, but OK... I can skip it. But they also said no alcohol. I'm calling BS on that one ;)

Way to go on the donating blood:cool: I give every time I can, alcohol will hit you quicker and in less quantity.

I had a manhattan like that with my dad last weekend. He loves mixed drinks. He likes manhattans, gimlets, martinis, gin & tonic, irish coffees, or just straight booze over ice. I am starting to follow in his footsteps. I been gettin into these mixed drinks. I am going to bring some lemons out to the parents house this weekend and make some whiskey sours.

I drink Manhattans now in honor of my dear departed grandmother Alma. She used to be my drinking buddy when me and the wife went to visit her down in the Keys. Back then, I didn't like the darn things - I'd stick to the beer. But on the day I learned she passed away, I went to the bar and had a Manhattan. At her "after-funeral" party, me and my uncle drank Manhattans all night. Been drinking them ever since.

I don't think anybody had a cooler grandmother.
