I finally got around to taking a picture of my Dad's old ski saucer today at lunch. I had it refinished. It was red, but I wanted to change it. So I was thinking, its a retro toy, it should have a retro paint job. It was made and used in the 70's so I figured the smiley was a good fit. I am anxoius th have my dad teach me to ride this outfit this summer. :woohoo:

I think we still have one of those in the store room at the lake house. Its is red. Dick Pope or Cypress Gardens or something. I remember riding it when I was a kid. I tell you what, wake boarding sure has come a long way.

People your looking at the Original Wake Board. LOL. :headbang:

Is the top part tacky so you have some traction?

No sir, I thought about that, we talked about putting some grit in the paint, but it never had any with the original gloss paint, and my dad never had any problems with it being slippery, so we just left it alone. We will see how it works. If its too slippery, we can always super glue my feet to it. :steering:

Looks good UMP, but it reminds me of this big dinner plate I saw at K-Mart the other day, it came in a set with saucers, plates, cups, glasses and all!

a couple of years ago my brothers and i made one of those out of a piece of plywood, some spar varnish, and grip tape. It's proved to be a fun toy, but i have yet to use it behind a mastercraft- we generally use it with our chris craft runabout

When I skied on a show team years ago, one of the guys used to ride one of those....but he put a 4 foot ladder on it and stood on the top rung!

We actually talked about dong a ying/yang scheme on it, and we considered a moon-face & stars thing too, but we settled on the smiley, nice and simple. :)

Ya know my dad used to do the ladder thing too, and a lawnchair. I want to do the lawn chair thing, I just need to figure it out!!! :woohoo:

3 great slalom skis+ 1 pair trick skis+ 1 wakeboard+1 saucer +1 mastercraft prostar 190+ $1500 in gas = Its gonna be a great summer!!! :headbang:

Nice Ump! I found our old saucer and was supposed to pick it up last weekend and forgot it!.

It will most likely need refinishing but ours will stay a nice stained color thank you.... Can't wait for my kids to ride it just to say that saucer's been skiid by 4 generations in the family!

Whats the diameter of that?
I have have a sheet of 3/4 in exterior plywood that I have been hanging on to for a few years, I might as well make one.

I used to ride my uncles way back when, lots of fun. But as I remember you have to be careful when you loose it, thise things have a way of coming at you and bitting you as you resurface.

SKI king,

Mine is 3ft in diameter. Its convex though, so it looks like a huge contact lens. Its built out of solid oak. The must have steamed it to get it to bend in a convex shape....

Ric

wow ours was 3ft or a bit more but flat as a pancake with about a 30degree chamfer on the bottom (or the top if you are crazy like that)

The one I remember was flat also.

I figured I would router a 1/4 in radius on both edges.

Ours is just 3 feet round. Flat made of birch plywood.

skibrain

We have two. One is 3' one is 4' Both are flat, made from scrap plywood and a couple coats of oil-base paint. We pull the kids up to about 115 lb. behind the Grumman sport canoe with 4hp outboard. On any other boat this would be a no-wake sub-planing speed I suppose.

One of the better tricks that the kids do is let the saucer submerge slightly and ride it with the whole board about 12" under water and the water surface up around their mid calves or knees. Looks pretty cool.

We also have a home made aquaplane (32 x 60") an old windsurfer (we can get 4 cousins standing, no hands) that all get see some low-speed, low horsepower action.
