View Full Version : To sit or not to sit!

93 Prostar 205

Anyone know how strong the the engine shroud is for a 93 prostar 205? When new friends come on the boat they have a tendency to want to lean up against it or even try to sit on it. I'm getting tired of reminding people and am wondering if leaning is okay. My guess is not, due to the stress it would put on the back hinges and the shroud itself.

Side note from a previous thread I posted - I had the dealer tap in a freeze plug on my block that fell out during the winter and he didn't find any damage. SWEET! I'm a happy guy and plan to be back on the frigid waters of SE Wisconsin this weekend.

I always have people leaning or sitting on the engine cover. I even stand on it from time to time.

Don't think you'll have any problem with it 93. Many do it and haven't heard of any problems from it.

You are LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY.
On your first outing, I'd be checking the oil every 15 or 20 minutes, just to make sure it isn't 'milky' and that your engine isn't 'manufacturing' any extra.

There are 2 people on my '95 on occasion with no problems. I stand on mine every time I put the barefoot boom on or off.

I have a '93, and I have used it as a spring board to dive over the side of the boat with no ill effect. Consider it Tuna tested !

The kids are on it all the time, I wouldn't worry much

It isn't Siz but if you go to
http://www.barefootcentral.com/cool.htm
and hit the Goin Too Fast link you'll get the idea. That is some footin!

And to stick to the topic......we stand and sit on the motorbox all the time. It is a pretty solid piece of fiberglass.

That is quite impressive. I wonder how fast he is going? Man, that boom sure looks high (it's above his head somewhere).

What grade of motor oil would you suggest, 5.7 indmar, the dealer who serviced the boat last year no longer around.
