Where do you guys find the best deals on airfare?

I've checked priceline, travelocity, and orbitz.

Where are you going? Check Airtran. Dirt cheap and all new Boeing 717s.

I was once married to a stew, here's some inside info ...

Call airport 1hr before flight departures, they always over book the planes.
Also, not everyone shows up ... fly stand by as well

If, your ever on a flight that's overbooked offer to stay behind (give up seat)
usually they will comp you a FREE round trip ticket anywhere they fly.

Good Luck

I am going from either Chicago Midway or Chicago O'hare to Portland, Maine.

I can't take the risk of flying standby, since I HAVE to be there on the 8th of June, and after the 19th of August I don't have a place to stay.

I use travelocity for work. Looks like about $322 round trip.
I would have guessed around $250.00.

What are you putting in to get $322 from travelocity? I can't get it to come up that low.

Looks like $300 on www.nwa.com (http://www.nwa.com) or 47k miles for free ticket.

Those are some long flights Leroy :) I'll see if the camp will pick me up at 11pm from the airport. If so, NWA is where I'll be. The cheapest so far.....

Those low fare tickets at NWA tend to go pretty fast - better jump soon if you're gonna do it. Also, pick your return flight carefully - if you have to change it, it'll cost you $100.

I checked a number of sites, looks like about $320 everywhere when you include taxes and fees.

I think East mentioned it but check Airtran or ATA. Pretty sure both of them fly thru Chicago and from my experience they have some of the lowest prices for legs I typically do.

One more tip for you Erk. Reset Intenet Explorer often while shopping for fares. Often some of the major sites uses cookies to track the airfare you are shopping for. Ever noticed how you can check a ticket in the morning, check it in the afternoon from the same computer and the price will be different? Some of it's supply and demand but alot of the sites actually manipulate the fares based on the # of times you view that flight option. It gets you to buy because you get concerned when you see it going up.

ATA doesn't go to ME. I already checked. It is cheap, but you typically have to go through Atlanta. But for those ocassions when you have more time than money, I've had great experience with them.

For the record, SWA doesn't go to ME either though they tend to fly everywhere else these days.

It's only May 6th...he's not leaving until June 8th...this could be a long, long thread...

As an alternative maybe you could look into buying a plane since the boat is sold.

No, not quite.....gotta buy the ticket this weekend. I just can't figure out why some people are finding non-stop prices at $322ish and I can't pull anything up under $400 round trip.

$425 from the local travel agent... Looks like I might have to bite the bullet on this one, if it wasn't 18 hours drive time then I would take the truck. But, driving solo thats a long way.

Check out the Snowbird website. The left side of the screen has the airfare link for their travel reservations. It automatically defaults to Salt Lake City as the destination but you can change it. Depending on the flight I've found rates cheaper than most of the discount web pages (travelocity etc...).

Are you going to be locked inside the camp when you are out there? I would be totally at a loss if I did not have a vehicle to drive. I went to college in New Jersey and had a 14 hour drive alone and it was not that bad. Red Bull could be your copilot if you wanted to drive :friday:

I'd have trouble without a car as well, but I'm sure the camp has some cars he could use...

I think the bus is the best deal. Kick back and read a book...it will be easier to get your gear on a bus, too. :headbang:

My truck will be spending the summer in Minocqua, with my brother  Atleast not having it there will keep the gas costs down:)

As far as the bus....I could just stay home and fly and make more money in that extra time that I would have been sitting on the bus.

So, to good old O'hare airport it is....6am flight

The camp does have vans for counselors to use during the course of the summer.
