No buyer...stock boat. We always hear the statement "well I'd buy one if you all had a closed bow...or...it isn't a ski boat with an open bow". So I decided that I would order one and that way there was no excuses. I thought it would be fun to see how long it takes to sell...the experiment begins.

Kudos to you, Mike. My last trip to a MC dealer did not, as predicted, no 190s. No 197s either. Not even listed on their website as a boat they carried as far as I could tell.

If I had the money, I'd trek to NC and let you make me a deal on it. :)

I discussed that with rodlt awhile back about someone's pic and there are certain camera angles that make a 190 look long in the snout..
the 197 & 190 are the same hull, different deck

So why would anyone buy the 190 over the 197. If it is the exact same boat why would anyone pick the closed bow.

They probably cost less #1. #2: ski clubs typically prefer a closed bow. #3: there is still a die hard market out there that wants them. IIRC, Nautique does pretty well in sales with their 196.

for real?? I would say that the world record holding 197 is based on the 190 and is actually an open bow 190 leaving the 190 solidly in it's place as the original.... tomatoe like rodlt says....

But from the looks of the 190 in the picture it appears the 197 was developed originally to be an open bow (hence the long closed bow) and then a closed bow deck was added in an attempt to appease the purists.

If you look back at the 195 you can clearly tell it is a 190 that was dished out as an open bow. The opposite is true here...........the 190 is a byproduct of the 197............so MC did not build a true closed bow 190 from the ground up.

Thats not bad for weight. A few more pounds than the 90's boats but considering you could ski this one all day into head winds with NO SPRAY and it still gives you a butter soft wake all the way in seems like a no brainer to me if I had my druthers which one to ski. Kinda hard to fault MC for "loosing their roots" when you have a boat like this

The storage on a closed bow is unbeatable in my opinion. We never have enough people in the boat to warrant the open bow. If I lived on a lake the storage would be less of an issue. With my closed bow I can take everything I need for a day on the lake without the boat being full of crap all day.

I have had 2 open bows and 2 closed bows. Unless I get out of skiing I won't own another open bow again. The lack of storage, lack of visibility, and ease at which water can be scooped into the boat are enough to convince me they just don't work for me. Why have an open bow unless it is functional.

Yes I do...to be honest I think I am at the front of the line for a 2007 boat. I plan on stocking a demo that we can use to dive and fish from, the coast is close enough for weekend trips.
To be direct, sure it will be a slow sale at first but I do believe there is a fit for the boat. Having been around inboard sport fishing boats for both fishing and diving I like the direct drive design. Plus I can work on it...never like messing with outboards.

I still think your boat (the 197) is the best looking ride on the water, just looks proportionate. I don't like the extra long nose of the newest 190.

With that said, I am guilty of favoring the really short snub noses of the 2001 and Barefoot, Nautiques
