can you ruin a 4 channel amp by only running it on two channels while you wait for the speakers to be installed?
Not usually a problem. No speakers impedance approaches infinity, therefore, no current passes. If you have two full-range speakers and want to feel safe, bridge the amp and run it that way.
It's the same as when you have a four channel head unit and use only two speakers. As long as the speaker outputs aren't grounded in any way, there won't be a problem.
