Just a quick shout out to a see if a couple of MasterCraft owners I have seen in the SW burbs were members here?

1.-Orange X-45 located in McKenna Woods in Plainfield

2.-Red 197 formerly located in McKenna Woods in Plainfield

3.-Blue ProStar 190 seen on Black Road in Joliet

4.-White Expedition seen with MasterCraft sticker in Plainfield

5.-Green Explorer seen with MasterCraft sticker in Plainfield

6.-Does anyone know who owns the house on the "pond" at I55 just north of Renwick (East Side of I55)? I think this would be a good pond for a slalom course of for wakeboarding off a jet ski

7.-White/Red ProStar 190 seen around Caton Farm and Drauden area

Drop me a line if any of you belong to the board. :toast:

I was over that way yesterday, it looks like there is a "MARINA" off the stevenson just south of 30. What waterway is near that? And is that a dealer of some sort?

I'll add to the Chicago MC contingent. 97 PS 205 in Naperville. Always looking for a close place to ski ...... most of the time we trailer to Shelbyville.

I think that is just a shop. Closest waterway probably is either a handful of private lakes and then the Illinois River just south a few miles.

Hey, we did finally meet my friend and it was a pleasure!
Just too bad it was such a crappy day.
Can you believe how dirty it was at that marina? I had to use wax to remove it. It's a good place for storage but I won't launch there anymore and it's getting too difficult to get in there for gas too.

I'm in Crest Hill and have a '96 prostar 205. 40 min. away in Seneca we run the Ill. river. We ski and barefoot early AM then beach or anchor to swim and party with friends. Its a great pool between locks in Morris to Marsales. Three resturants and bars. The small lake you have seen of I55 is privite and I have seen a Nautique in it, poor guy. Our boat has small teal and small black stripe if you see us stop and say HI !!

Next time you head down to Clinton, let me know. I've got a private lake in Farmer City with a pro shop on it. We're about to finish another turn island which will give us two different slalom courses. I've also got some friends that are supposed to be building sliders that they want to put in the lake. Stop by and check us out.

Boy, MasterCraft is just selling the begeezus out of the X-Stars pickleforks up here in the far Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Coming home from skiing this afternoon, I passed two X-Stars (white/red rear-end and black/silver flake sides), and then an X-45 that was dark gray with a silver rear-end all within a minute of each other. Their everywhere up here! Spotted them along Rawson Bridge Road in Cary along the Fox River.

Just to throw out an idea and a plug for our set up. If you wanted to head south to Farmer City. We could put together something for a Mastercraft TT outing. No need to bring your boat, unless you wanted to head down to Clinton Lake for an extra day. Bring your ski and/or board. Hit the water, hang out, whatever.

Give me a call or send an e-mail if you want to put something together.

We had a group from The Malibu Crew put together a mini-reunion and spend a day last fall. They came from Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Ohio. They are starting to plan a couple trips this summer. Even though we are Mastercraft, they had a great time.

Our lake is 22 - 24 foot deep. Typically you can see your ski or board under water when you are in the middle of the lake. The shorelines get cloudy from the wakes.

If you make it to Clinton, give me a call. We should be back in the shop on April 1st.

If there is interest in having an event down here. Let's start putting the details together.

Thanks, its a little long, the XStar looks good back there.

Good times, windy on Sat calmed down later in the day for a nice ride.
Very loud on Sat night till the sun came up, man those guys like to party. These boats have nice stereos, but not so nice at 4 am

I took Curt out on my boat sun morning after two hrs of sleep, a lot of beer, and riding on 8 boats on sat. MAN that guy can throw down some tricks on a wakeboard, fun to see. I don't think anybody charges gas money to that guy.
Used my new prop on sat. I think Mark was throwing logs in the river to help in the prop department.:purplaugh :

My two boys (13 & 11) have taken lessons from Doug in the past few weeks and he is AWESOME! The boys can't wait to go back for their next wakeboarding runs.

Doug has a great private lake and his pro shop has some wonderful equipment...we just purchased 2 pairs of bindings for our wakeboards and are looking forward to using them.

If you're ever in the Central IL area, it is worth the drive to go to Farmer City and check out The Liquid Edge.

Anyone ever ski in the Fox River? Particularly in and near Fox River Grove? I know someone that is a vendor of mine and I have to be up that way early May of 2015 for business.

I skied on that part of the river since I was 10 years old. About 11 years ago I moved north near Barrington. I really don't like to tell people how nice it is, but if you start early you will have a great time. I think last weekend may have been the last for this year. Hope to see you around.

When we had a place on the river we could go out many different times of the day. Now we are spoiled. We start early and go have breakfast, clean up my boat and go home. Yes I have known Tom for a long time. My son raced at the island for about 8 years. I was talking skies with Tom and he is in love with his. No sense trying to tell him how much better skies have become (yes even HO).

There seems to be a sizeable uptick in mastercrafts out in the Fox chain o lakes this year. Significantly more than I remember seeing in years past.

I know you guys are on this board. Don't be afraid to say hi or even get together to get some runs in.

Just today there was a star, x15, and an x1 that I've never seen and I'm on pistakee every day.

The X15 could have been me (navy blue). That is the most crowded I have ever seen pistakee bay. I'm out on the chain almost every weekend. Sometimes even make it out during the week. Lost an opportunity to get on the lake last Friday because I couldn't find enough people.

I second the thought. How about Channel Lake sand bar so anyone with kids can get out and play? I know that Gordys does a Colbalt roundup day out there. They also carry Mastercraft at their Lake Geneva location, so maybe they would be willing to set something up.

The Colbalt roundup was a pretty cool family show last year. You can actually get out of your boats and walk around to talk to other owners.

1. Yes we should get together
2. Never let a possible day on the water go by because you were short on crew. Reach out.

I live on the south west side of the bay by the no wake line. Blue X2. My primary rider/driver in crime is out this summer with new twins. Likewise I am going to be off work for much of the summer starting in July so will be game to go if needed.

Hi all, just coming across this thread. Looking for some places to ride in the Chicago suburbs area. I grew up riding on the Fox in St. Charles. We had a 2001 Tige direct drive then and busted the prop/drive shaft among other things with that small boat. We now have an 2014 X30 and it is obviously significantly bigger. As another friend of mine has messed up his X30 in the same area pretty good, my dad (it's his boat) won't put it in there anymore. Can y'all give me some good locations to ride? It would typically be on the weekends as we both work. I'm looking for smooth water and have no problem getting up early.

I've heard good things about Kankakee river. Where do you get in at? How deep? Anything we need to watch out for?

What's the chain o lakes like? I've never been up there, but have just heard it's a big party lake and tough to get good water? Can anyone comment?

Where else? We've been up to Lake Geneva and Delevan and I've never once been on Lake Geneva where it was anywhere close to rideable. Delevan is rideable weekdays and early weekends from what I understand.

I'm sure there's other lakes/rivers I'm missing. Can anyone help me out?

The water is as low as I have seen it in 15 years. You really have to stay in the middle. By the way did you see the Red and cream Stars and strips? By Port Barrington 7:40 am 7/4.

I have 13 x30 and run regularly in the Illinois river in Morris. I am south of you, in Bristol, by Yorkville. I used to run in St. Charles when I had my 190, but that was 15 years or so ago...even then the depth of the water was questionable and you had to know the river (where rocks were, how far you could go, etc..). The Illinois River has a channel depth of at least 12'. If you launch and head up river, there is less traffic - down river is the big beach the the Bayliner/Baja crowd typically head that way. Like most bodies of water, the glass is at first or last light.

How deep of water are you looking for? If north of rt 62 is shallow all of the chain is basically out except for a couple of lakes up there. You could do lake Michigan on the right days.

I mean I would say at least an average of 6 feet. I realize you can ride in 4-5 feet of water, but I don't want to risk the chance of running up to a rock or that 2 foot of water and get in trouble. Does anybody have any experience in the Twin Lakes, WI area?

The chain is fine in most of the rider friendly places you'd want to ride like the bays etc. Generally the shallow is muck. Most places you will find are 5 to 6 feet. Pistakee bay will get to 20ish in places. Like stated.. best water is early n late and on weekends after 10am it's over.

Agreed as that is where we surf too. We ski on the river with the Prostar and that is fine. We tend to get out very early on the upper river near the lake entry and south of there and it is usually pretty good up until about 8 unless we are running the course in the bay by us in Dutch Creek. Weekdays are usually very good for just about everything up here too.

We've been blowing the cobwebs after a few years of baby raising, now 5 & 3 it's time for the girls to find their sea legs!! Anyhow, Twin Lakes is nice but can get sea weedy in a lot of places that will scare you...check it out cleanest water around hands down.

The big Lake Geneva is choppy & land of the big boats...lots of bays & nooks to play in if you go during the week, weekends are no fun for much of anything but sightseeing, very clean water.

For the record, the lower river starts north of the dam in Algonquin. Deepest water starts right there in the no wake & heads north. Lots of places to board & great conditions no matter what the weather is like just keep driving till you find a stretch that's working. There is a shallow section that starts at the Oar & takes u north to the Reef. You can do sets there all day. As everyone states, start early the party will be over by 10-11ish then it will look like the Edens

Be careful, someone said the lowest they've seen in a long time, I'd agree, it looks like a drought up here. The peers are almost 90% visible as you drive around. Guess that the reward for years of flooding & river closures. Stick to the middle, you'll get used to 3-5 ft of water then 6-10' will seem deep when you get up to the chain!!

Pistakee Bay, best swimming & chilling right up along the no anchor signs to the south :) I agree great to see the up tick in Mastercrafts this year!!

See y'all out there,
George

I hear ya. Got a buddy that keeps his boat on the rock in the Rockford area. Always good water and generally the place to yourself. No matter what day or time.. Worst case you have 4 or 5 other pontoon boats to deal with. In contrast I have 50 boats anchored in my backyard right now that will be there till sunset.

To the people who are riding on the fox river; are you guys skiers or boarders? The reason I ask, is I imagine the shallow water would benefit a skier in terms of a small wake. Can any wakeboarders comment on wake size/ ballast used?

Coach Mike
07-11-2016, 09:02 PM
Upper river has good wakes early in the morning only. With the seawalls the water gets choppy very quickly. I always liked the lower river for smooth water, but worried about shallow depth for heavy loading of boat - great skiing there without the seawalls though.

We ski with the Prostar and wakeboard on the X30. Choices are nice to have depending on what we want to do and what time or day it is :)
