The wife and I are escaping the 4 kids for 4 days starting next weekend. We are looking forward to some time by ourselves, since we are expecting the 5th in November and there will be even less peace then! Yeah, we're nuts.

If anyone has some recommendations on things to do, places to visit post em up - we'd appreciate it. Since she's pregnant and we want some US time I am not heading for ski school (we are just about to start the season so it might kill me if school were to be the first outing of the year anyway).

Staying on Clearwater Beach. Don't want to drive too far, really want to take it easy and relax. Is Cypress Gardens worth a stop? Are the nearby state parks pretty nice? All suggestions welcome.....thanks!!!

We were there not long ago, Maybe a year or two.
We went parasailing.
And rented a jet ski to ride around, it was cool until 2 Dolphins starting jumping RIGHT in front of us for a long time. That was the coolest thing.
We had a car and I remember there was a beach we drove out on. Don't recall which one, sorry, but that was cool in the evening.
Otherwise we did walk alot, some on the road, some on the beach.
Nice area.

COME ON DOWN

I live about 20 minutes from Clearwater beach and there are plenty things to do.

I was born and raised in this area so here are a couple of secrets.

Clearwater Beach is very nice BUT can also get very crowded. One of the nicest beaches is Sand Key (http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/15_Sand_Key.htm), it is also a county park, It is located at the south end of Clearwater beach just across the sand key bridge.

Another nice place to visit is Fort DeSoto (http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/05_Ft_DeSoto.htm) This Park, Beach (rated in the top 10 beaches) and the Fort is really a neat place to visit and about 25 to 30 minutes to get there.

Pinellas county has lots of parks in the area (http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/locations.htm). Use this website to help you out. Also look here (http://www.pinellascounty.org/visitor.htm) to see other things to keep you busy.

As for Cypress Gardens It is a nice place to visit if you are willing to drive about 1 1/2 hours +/-

Don't forget about Bush Gardens (http://www.buschgardens.com/buschgardens/fla/default.aspx)

Good luck and have a safe trip.

Thanks mrcrowson! Those tips will be very helpful, we have no firm plans so I can add these places to our list. We picked Clearwater based on hotel and airline points availability - seems like it was a very good choice! And 3 days after we get back we have the skiing kickoff party at the lake place at home. Not bad...
