Hopefully I get the images attached right. This is a 1/64th scale (about 3 1/2" long) model of a friends' 85 Stars & Stripes. I am working one of my 82 SS as well.

The hull and interior were created using a stereo lithography apparatus (SLA). Basically a laser draws layers on liquid plastic .004" at a time until the final shape is complete. Follow up with a lot of detail sanding and painting and this is what you get. I had to create a windshield as the SLA comes out kind of yellowish. The underwater gear is fashioned from .010" thick aluminum (Sorry those pics didnt' turn out so well). The original plan was to model and build a trailer for it but this was more that enough work so I went with a simple stand.

sbuell, that is pretty cool. What software was used to create the model. I am an above average user of Solidworks and an average Pro/E user.

Want to make some us? How much? Would you need a full scale boat in order to do it the way you are doing it?

What was I doing in Utah this morning?

Sbuell,

Looks cool. Welcome aboard also. Now about the photos of your full size boat?? ..

Zach S - The original model was done in Pro/e full size. Some details have to be exagerated so that when you scale down that much they are still visable and stucturally sound.

Ric - I no longer have access to the SLA (changed jobs). I have a couple of unfinished models of the same 80's version just in case I screwed up along the way on one. I modeled this one by measuring my boat and adjusting to make it work. There is a fair amount of finishing work in each one.

What are the chances of getting the model? I have an '85 Stars and Stripes and possible access to either a FDM or SLA machine. I will have to talk to some people.

Sounds like an Ebay business to me!

Now, you need to work on getting a 1/64th scale working 351 under that motor box! :steering:

looks very nice.... good job!

Seriously. If you make it, they will buy.

I'd take one without any painting, if you say you have extras.

Right now I am in the long process of moving. Everything is in storage. I will check what I have available as soon as I can get to it in the next couple of weeks.

Any thoughts on what people think they would pay for something like this. With the right info I should be able to match any model year and color scheme. I will have to pay for any future SLAs, however.
