Iberostar (http://www.visitus-inc.com/iberostar.asp?conccodi=3&codiconc=68&idiocodi=2&session=5104895) in Cozumel never stayed there but when we were in Cozumel everyone that we talked to that was staying there loved it. I did stay on their dock during surface intervals while diving. Nice place and great beach.

Cozumel still needs more time to rebuild. You would be better off going to Playa del Carmen or Cancun.
The beaches are fully restored in Cancun. Here's a link that describes.
Caution regarding Cancun, some resorts are still rebuilding. I like Riviera Maya better.

Riu Palace is the newest, AI resort in Playa.

We didn't stay at the Palace but at the resort south, next door. Next trip will be the Palace.

Royal Hideaway... i would check its current condition, but have been there and by far the best in the Playa del Carmen area!

What activities do you want to do? Quite a bit hinges on that...

Playa is the Place. I posted some trip pics from snorkeling at Zel-Ha, not the best natural setting but a great quick fix. Other places such as Akumal offer a low key natural setting and they even have sea turtles there.

No doubt Royal Hideaway is a top notch 5 star but $600-700 per night.
You can get the Riu on select dates for about $325, normally $545.

If you want some great snorkleing, you should check out the barrier reef down in Belize. There's a place called Ambergris Caye. There are some amazing dive sites out there. The "Great Blue Hole" is almost 500 feet deep...

Blue Hole (http://ambergriscaye.com/pages/town/greatbluehole.html)

Belize isn't much further south, and pretty reasonably priced. They speak English, and the currency is tied to the dollar ($1USD = $2BZ).
And, most places accept US currency.

Great place, I would like to take a trip there. My brother in law and sister in law just took a dive trip there. I need to talk to them to see how it went.
