Boat is sold, but he doesn't want to take delivery till mid-May. SO, I can use it until then.

Non-refundable deposit.....If he decides not to buy it, the down payment will cover the payment and insurance for the summer while I am gone, so I'll just keep the boat.

Long line or boom baby?

I took a couple of boom runs, then was trying to teach a newbie driver to drive me on the 5ft. line, but that didn't go well AT ALL! Therefore, I did not venture out to the long line.

How do you tell a driver that they suck, and that you don't want them to drive for you without sending them over the edge? Thats how bad it was!

What happened?

Let's see....I'll make a list:

-Shortline tumble up, I told him to take it medium out of the hole, then pause between 25-28mph so I could spin around. Once I am facing forward riding on my arse, take it up to 40-42mph at a good pace. What I got was full throttle out of the hole, straight up to 46mph accordding to the spotter. My back was on FIRE

-So, then I decided to just take a boom run. I told him (while I was sitting on the side of the boat) just take it up to 38 and I'll climb out. He got up to 40, so I climbed out, then he saw some waves, so he slowed down  I wasn't expecting that which resulted in a quite eventful fall.

-Finally, I explained to him how to pull a shortline deep up start. He said, ok I got it, no problem. My directions were that when I said hit it to take it medium out of the hole and up to 40 at a good pace. What I got was a slow pull to 20mph (or what it felt like 20) then he seemed to stay at that speed. I held on for as long as I could, and yelled for faster when I could breathe, but couldn't get any more juice!

Erk, don't take this the wrong way (the same would apply to me), but my bet is that you'll get to that camp and will learn that you've been doing things way different than what they refer to at that camp in Maine as "the right way." That said, I know it's hard to get used to a driver that knows how you like it and have someone who just doesn't.

Bummer Erk. Is this the 1st time the guy has driven a boat?

I guess i'm lucky I learned from terrible drivers, now I just get in the water and tell them to drop the hammer and give me all its got.
It is kinda hard to screw that up.

Trust me, this guy could screw that up!

I don't mind a really hot pull or a pull that is slow by a couple mph, but just make it consistent.

I let him drive for me a few times last year, guess I didn't learn my lesson!

Erk, were you out beating the he11 out of MY wakeboard?? First you take some poor guys boat out that he thinks is "sold" and sitting waiting for him to pick up and you go footin with it, then to top it off you probably had my wakeboard out with it too :uglyhamme :uglyhamme

Don't worry, its still leaning on the ironing board.

While we are on the subject. How would you recommend I tell my FIL to pull me off the boom? I typically hang on and do a little superman action until up to speed and then roll over into "the stance"

If all goes well, I might get a tow from him next weekend when the in laws are out here.

I would say, start with a medium pull out of the hole, and bring it up to 28ish then, once you spin around hit it hard to 38......

Or, if you are steady enough, tell him to take it right up to the high 30's.

Just make it consistent.....maybe even do a test run while your driving and show him how to do it.
