Anyone ever sold there car to CarMax. They say they will buy your car whether you buy theres or not. Just wondering if it is worth selling to them to avoid the hassle of selling it myself...with that being said, anyone need a Chevy Silverado 4x4?

A friend of mine ALWAYS sell his vehicles to them, they give him $1,500 to $2,000 more than the dealer would allow him on trade-in and he keeps the comparison paperwork to prove it, in case anyone challenges his reasoning.

Does it matter what year the vehicle is? Mine is a 2000 so it is 6 years old. If this is the case

Avoiding the hassles yes, will you get as much as selling it yourself. No. They would get a check to you within about an hour of the estimate.(give or take a few minutes)
Yes they usually pay higher than a standard dealer. They do not negotiate the price they will give you. You have 300 miles or 7 days to come back to consider.
Two things, it better have less than 100K and have ZERO noticable bodywork done.

I've often wondered about that. W4T answered my question about mileage. We've bought one car from Carmax---my wife's 97 Explorer. It just passed 220k miles this week.

They MIGHT buy a vehicle over 100K from someone, but there is a pretty good chance you'd get more for it from a salvage yard.

Well, we've decided to keep the Explorer until the wheels fall off. So the salvage yard will have to have a pick-up service.

I have a friend that has sold two cars to them. He was very happy with it. As stated above he got a better price than the offered trade but not quite as much as if he had sold it himself.

I took a nice but 9 year old truck to them. They offered me $2300. I sold it in the newspaper for $5000. I think thay try to low ball you like the dealers do when you trade in.
