Take it out and head to the local auto parts store with the strut...
there are a billion different versions and one is bound to fit your needs.(I recently did the same thing with the toolbox lid in my old toolbox in my truck)

Overtons, West Marine, and often even an auto store has them. Just get the length of it before you order or go to the store.

I got my glove box gas shock from my dealer last summer, was only ~$10.

The trick is changing out. Once you know the trick it is easy.....

There are many sources for these things on the internet also.

You can get it from your local MC dealer for $12.

You will need to know length and pounds of lift and make sure the end connection is the same if you buy from somewhere other than MC.

Just to add to my post above, my local pep boys couldn't match it when I replaced mine a couple of years ago.

NAPA. Bought new motor box struts and ones for the observers seat. Just make sure you get a similar lift lbs rating as the old ones.

I replaced mine a couple of months ago. For my 91 Prostar, the exact replacement was SPD-GS-5300-30 (http://www.thomasregister.com/olc/smartcat.aspx?az=72827629&advancedsearch=yes&bgcolor=FFFFFF&border=0&bordercolor=000000&cartlink=yes&columnsort=yes&counters=yes&email=yes&font=Arial%2c+Helvetica&fontsize=2&header=Click+on+PRODUCT+NUMBER+below+for+photo+and +specifications+-+Click+on+ADD+TO+CART+to+order&linktext=Back&listsort=yes&orderimage=http%3a%2f%2fwww.thomasregister.com%2fo lc%2fccc%2fmm%2fcec_AddToCart_f01.gif&printpreview=yes&ptnolink=yes&rfqimage=http%3a%2f%2fwww.thomasregister.com%2folc %2fccc%2fmm%2fcec_AddToRFQ_f01.gif&showdiscounts=yes&stripecolor=FFFFEE&tablealign=center&tablewidth=460&textcolor=000000&type=details&rn=171525&template=http://www.spdhardware.com/spdecomm.htm) from SPD Gas Springs.

Its NAPA cross reference # is 819-5592

The thread that pointed me in the right direction is here (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=1021&highlight=gas+shocks).

UMP, a word of caution, if you get one at the local parts store, make sure you get the right lift rating. When I was a young foolish lad (before I found this list) I replaced mine with the right size from the local store, but didn't think to check the force. Nothing written on the old one that I could see. The new one's too much, and often the seat back will spring up over waves, when I'm trailering, etc. It gets annoying, however not quite enough that I've replaced it yet. I'm so cheap sometimes!
Good luck.

WOW! lots of good advice here. THANKS!! :) :wavey:

I will see if a MC dealer has one. Maybe I can get one from MYMC or BAWS. :D

NAPA sells the same SPD-GS-5300-30. However, I think I paid $25 for mine....sounds like your dealer might have 'em cheaper. I'm guessing my dealer would charge at least $30 though.....

I replaced mine today for my 92 PS. Picked it up at the local MC dealer for $12. Dealer said this strut has a force of 30 pounds.
At this price don't waste your time trying to find one that may or may not work. Go for the OEM part.

Hey UMP be VERY careful w/ the strut you choose. If they aren't marine rated the fluid WILL leak out of them and eat right thru your fiberglass! I'd post a poll on different brands here and see what everyone has to say. :D
