OK, I did find at least one problem with my $1 boat. This weekend while trying to pull a rather large friend I noticed a slip or cavitation out of the hole. I got on the throttle pretty hard, the engine revved and stalled. It's a 89 Prostar 351/1:1 with a 13/13 prop. I checked the transmission fluid, it appears to be full and clean.

Any help would be appreciated!

What do you call a "rather large friend"? Larger than 400 lbs? I've been in and behind comp boats pulling 6 out without any slippage. Adding it up - I get (avg 180lbs for the bottom 3 = 540, avg 120 for the middle 2 = 240, 100 for the top = 880 lbs). Maybe your tranny is slipping. You may need a re-build on your $1.00 tranny.

Don't take my word for it though - wait till you hear from others also.

If you think about it, the tranny was only like 25cents.

I never noticed that there isn't a cent sign on a keyboard.

I don't know if I'm comfortable with my last offer of $20 now. I'm not gonna pay that much for a boat with a bad tranny.

Did you, or anyone else, notice a lot of bubbles or foam behind the boat when it seemed to slip? If so, it was probably cavitation. If the water was clear behind the boat, it could be slipping.

Doesn't seem to work on my keyboard.

When my boat was still fairly new, sometimes it wouldn't respond when I gave it the throttle. The engine would rev but the boat wouldn't move. Sometimes I had to do it several times before it would move. The dealer had to completely rebuild the transmission under warranty.

If you try pulling forward slowly and then hitting it, does it still do this? If so, it doesn't seem that it would be cavitation (does it?). The only time my propeller has ever cavitated is when turning fairly sharply with a skier in tow, and it has only happened very rarely.

That's pretty cool. Now we can even spell Andr ( is Alt130), maana ( is Alt164) or show 185.( is Alt167).

My rather large friend is 350 lbs. plus but I didn't notice any bubbles behind the boat. I was to busy being freaked out! The boat has 625hrs. on the motor and I don't know if the tranny was ever serviced or rebuilt. I will be sure to check if it ever happens again.

if you're running windows, you can see them all by going to System Tools / Character Map or searching Help for Character Map. The symbols change with the font you choose..

Click on the Start menu, click on Programs, then accessories. When you click on accessories, look for System Tools, it'll be there.

Go to 'Control Panel' / 'add remove programs' / 'add remove system components' / 'accessories'.. / 'details'

you will see "Character Map" as a component. With your original disk handy, put a checkbox in "Character Map" and it's downloaded for you...

If you can't find it, I can email it to you (give me an address) and just drop it into your "windows\system32 folder...
